I don't know, The fact that he showed promise almost made it worse. It makes his decline after the injury that much more inexplicable. It shows he potentially had the physical ability to be a first-round pick but for whatever reason, could not build on his early success.
Jones never even remotely lived up to the expectations placed on him which could mean he may have never had the talent to warrant the first round pick to begin with.
I agree with Blast in the fact that the amount given up to get Bush makes that pick hurt that much more.

IMO it shows the opposite....It shows that the team knew what they were looking at in Bush(but You can't judge heart), whereas the other J. Jones....they didn't even know what they were doing. That makes it worse IMO.
I very much rather our team miss on a guy that just doesn't have the heart to comeback from injuries than them miss on a Guy that just sucks. JMO.
    J.Jones whole entire career(4 years): 2ints ...4 FF, 11TFLs, and 130 combined tackles.
    Bush just 1st year: 2ints, 1FF, 1 td, 9 TFLs, and109 combined tackles.

Jones had 6 sacks in 4 years....I am sure that half of his sacks were against the Browns or close to that

Yeah, I remember him blowing by Joe Thomas once for an easy sack, and I was thinking “HOW? How did the worst starting edge in the league just dust the best LT?”

Jones played 4 seasons here and would have played a 5th for Arizona but was injured and then released.

I expect a lot more from a top 10 pick then what Bush showed. A top 10 pick we traded up for. Showing promise doesn’t cut it.

Bush hands down for me biggest bust.

    Good read, thanks.

Shame about Franco, that would have been a good story and nice moment between the two of them.

I could live with that. I'd be on the brink of retirement with grandkids ready to live my best life.

Off topic, but the mention of hockey brought a memory of Richie Hebner. He was a hockey player, not sure he was ever pro at any level but was a decent player. I saw an interview a while back, still looked great and around 70 or so..he said something like its time to retire, he had been a grave digger and the boss had just called and canned him. lol

I'm not so sure about that one. Lambert got more attention and they were both Hall of Famers, but I think Ham was better.

That said, if you go with Lambert, you could have three rounds from the same draft. You could even go with that year for best UDFA.

As for the Steelers greatest bust of all time regarding First Rounders... Jamain Stephens from North Carolina A&T or Huey Richardson from Flordia are mine. Granted... I was never alive for either being drafted but both basically were of no assistance whatsoever.

Biggest Steelers bust ever HAS TO go to Senquez Golson. He NEVER played a single snap sadly due to injury.

I was alive for both Stephens and Richardson. Richardson was the biggest bust in team history. It wasn't a matter of injuries or any other misfortune. He just sucked and it was clear that he sucked before the end of his first training camp. If he hadn't been a first-round draft pick, he would have been cut before the opener.
