    7 days to draft night!

So for each day from now until next Thursday I will post a pic of the best player ever drafted from round 1 through round 7 starting with 1969.

This won’t be easy, lot of good players will be past over!

I think we can all agree who the best number one draft pic of all time is.

Hard to argue with MJG! They hit big time with four no. 1 draft picks in six years starting with Mean Joe, then Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris and Lynn Swann. Fun topic and will generate a little debate, I'm sure. But as for the best no. 1 pick of all time, Mean Joe Greene gets that honor for sure. He was the cornerstone upon which the dynasty was built.

For sure, lot of great number ones as you listed plus Ben, TJ, Troy.

Maybe I should have just done 7 best number 1 picks!

It shows just how great Mean Joe was when guys like Bradshaw, Franco, Woodson, Troy, Ben, etc aren't even in the discussion as best #1 pick.

Now why did you have to go and remind us of the magnificent talent we let leave?

Other Franchises have arguments for players who can be considered the best ever at their positions; San Francisco often being the most notable example. Pittsburgh is one of the few NFL Franchises that have not just legendary talent spanning decades but also a de facto number one.

For me, Joe Greene is in a tier all to his own. I still have Mel Blount as my second best ever but the gap between Mean Joe and anyone else is very considerable.

Management seems to be in full wheeler-dealer mode. Odds of us making a big splash play in the draft this time around are way higher than normal IMO.

I thought it was just me that felt this way. Your statement is not just a funny joke, but a precise and literal reality with me.

If I remember correctly, not only did he come walking out wearing this snappy number, but didn’t he also do some cringe worthy dance or strut or something??? I was like, yo, pause…hold the phone! Something ain’t right here.

Gut feelings should often be trusted.

What they saw in Bush to not only draft him but to MOVE UP to get him! The biggest miss by Colbert/Tomlin

Lot of good choices for round two as well. Ham right there and I liked Dawson a lot. Not giving it to Sweed was really tough.

    Gotta be Lambert though!

Yea. I'll be shocked if we actually select at 17. I'm not sure if we move up or dahn, but I'm rather convinced we're making some moves in this draft.

As for MJG and those 70s teams, I really wished I was born 20 years earlier to fully live through those moments. I've watched a few of the SBs, but definitely not the same as being in that moment.

Jebus! That is one hell of a career stat line to reckon with. What a beast! Dude looks like he could have played hockey in the 70’s too!!!

Not even close. Jarvis Jones was by far the biggest miss. Bush showed promise in his rookie year and even more in his second. Once the injury happened it was all downhill. Jarvis Jones never showed anything and got benched for a geriatric James harrison

Bush is the biggest bust because they traded up for him. I don’t care if he showed something one season, when you give up picks for a guy they better be here for the long haul.

    Huge bust, huge.

I’m on the fence or equally split between the two opinions above by Blast and Strummer. It’s a worthy debate with rock solid points to both.

The team is now smarting much more over the Bush bust because it’s taken so long to find even a resemblance of the replacement for Shazier. Highsmith and Watt were both big scores to get past Jones.

This team used to be a LB factory. Gotta get back to it.

Bush is going into his 5th or 6th year. Jones made it 3. Artie burns played 6 years

    https://www.steelers.com/news/steelers-jt-thomas-remembers-the-draft-50-years-later

Blast, I decided to put this here instead of a new link. It really is a good read, not only on his draft experience, but stories that link others from the dynasty. J.T. Thomas was a huge part of the dynasty, but one we rarely mention because the others were some dominant. Not the best 1st round pick, but Noll thought he was the missing piece, while not THE missing piece, certainly a proven winner for the Black and Gold.

    Enjoy guys, great memories.

I gotta agree. Bush showed promise in His 1st 20 starts....Hell I believe His 1st year still is better, and destroyed what J. Jones whole career was about. Both are bust, but at least one showed promise.

Mel Blount is the greatest 3rd round draft pick ever. No argument.
