I wanted to post a comment about Coach MT and didn't want to start a new thread but had to go to page 4 of the MB to find an MT thread. So figured this was a good one to bring to the front.

At any rate, just saw Tomlin interviewed at the AFC coaches breakfast this morning and thought he did a good job. If MT is anything, he is consistent when it comes to motivating, culture, and leadership in general. He talked about the relatively small size of the Steelers coaching staff and how that was purposeful to help drive the culture. He also had great things to say about Highsmith and also Najee as a leader within the team.

Maybe it's because we're getting spring weather here in TN and it puts me in a hopeful mood. Or maybe it's because I'm getting sentimental as I get older. But, I appreciated MT's comments and it gave me confidence that he has a plan and is focused on the right things as the top leader of the team. I do think he is good at that. Where I've seen things fall apart is with choosing the right assistants and then letting them handle the X's and O's and then holding them accountable for performance.

Just wanted to give MT credit. I like what I'm seeing so far this off season and am really looking forward to the draft.

Agreed. There was a time I wanted to move on from him but I think you hit the nail on the head with both praise and criticism.

I want to see what he does now that it is “his” team. He got the QB he coveted and putting the pieces around him, let’s see how he does now, no more excuses.

My biggest reservation going into the season still revolves around Canada. Hope he surprises me.

Tomlin threw away any chance of Coach of the Year when he decided to bring back Canada as OC. I don't see him winning it this year unless the Defence carries this team with an incredible year.

You have a better chance at the power ball than MT has at COY. I would be utterly shocked if that man wins another playoff game in Pittsburgh. He’s clearly not a bad coach based on his regular season record but his shtick is beyond worn out here. Similar to Mike Sullivan with the Penguins.

This thread was for last season , I'm sure Art made the decision that Canada was returning in 2023 because of $$$.

He had a year left on his contract. That's it. Art II is an honor your contract owner. Except for free agent ILBers,

Are you ok Knox? I didn't take you for a um Tomlin guy.

My hope is that Art II holds off on a contract extension to see what the great motivator can do in 2023.

I do have faith in Khan and Weidl so far. And as you stated the draft. Many drafts :drinks:

I’m watching the 2004 Patriots game on NFLN. Joey Porter just got a sack and I’m cheering; even though I’ve seen it multiple times and am fully aware of the outcome.

I missed the 2003 season, because I was overseas doing my duty. What I know of that season is, they ended up with the 11th pick.

What I’m wondering is, other than Ben, how much different were the personnel? Hines, Burress, Bettis, Faneca, etc were all there. Same with many on D. And yet, they took a team with a sub-performance in one year and an outstanding performance the next.

Cowher had a clear direction for how to lead the team.

While 2022 may not have been as bad as 2003 and 2023 may not be as good as 2004, the Steelers have a great nexus to build upon. Mike Tomlin has the characteristics you describe to successfully lead this team just as Cowher did on 2004.
