It's a safe assumption IMO. And Wallace is a decent CB. I dont think its as dismal as some think. As much as I wanted to keep Sutton, there is no way he was getting $33M here so I don't fault him at all for getting the stacks.

Safe as that assumption is, I also assume we can agree that Peterson is not the future at the position, no? The Steelers are in a great position to get a guy who can be their number #1 corner for years to come. That's something they've struggled to find for quite some time through the draft. Hopefully with Khan and Weidls input, they can do better.
I'm not saying CB has to be their first pick at 17 because I still think they need a left tackle. However, I do hope they address it in the earlier rounds instead of taking a shot with these developmental guys who never seem to pan out.

Keeping in mind the odds are about 1/3 that will actually work out

I agree. Just seems like a weak draft class at CB to me. I don't want to reach for one in the 1st round if there are better players available at their positions that we need.

I've heard the opposite on CBs in this draft. From what I'm hearing on sports media shows on NFL Network, ESPN and FS1... this is the strongest CB class in years. '23 class is weak at LB compared to previous years.

Boom or bust for most of these guys IMO. I'm not seeing a generational type CB in this draft but many that are closer in potential. Good depth for mid rounds but not seeing anyone we should trade up or reach for. If either of the top 2 CBs are there at 17, I'd be ok with it. But like I've said in other threads, I'm hoping for Darnell Wright at 32. So it depends on how the pieces fall.

Yeah, like Heinz said, I had thought it was a deep cb class but I'm just going off of the little I've read. Regardless, I agree that I don't want to see them reaching with the #17 pick. Or any for that matter, no matter what the position is.

Corner at 32 or 49. Then we hope its not another Artie Burns situation. What a miss! Or they sign Rock ya sin. Proven and ready to go.

Have to get to Latrobe this season.

Right. Couldn't the same be said about nearly every draft pick?

we knew Burns was a BUST draft night. a reach of all reaches. what Colbert was thinking, God only knows. Yes, need a CB, S and some D-Line in this draft. Oline as well, and a TE along the way.

Yep. Burns and Edmunds could have both been had in the 3rd round. Colbert has been more hit than miss over the years, so I'll give him a pass. As bad as the Burns and Edmunds picks were.... Colbert struck gold over the years with UDFAs like Willie Parker and James Harrison.....and 6th and 7th rounders like AB and Brett Keisel.

Here’s a hot take for everyone to kill me about.

Despite his injury and probably won’t play this year - we still draft Andrew Vorhees if we gain a 4th or 5th round pick in the draft.

Projected as a solid 2nd and possible 1st round pick until his combine injury. Still came back after his knee blew out and destroyed everyone else in full health at the bench press (where legs are usually very important for planting base power.

Anyone miss Aaron Smith. I’m gettin the vibes…

this is an extremely good cb class. people need to get over the shut down never give up a catch mentality, that is just not going to happen, whether it's the first pick or otherwise. this group is quite good though. dear lord, sutton wasn't that either.

yes - but see what you said - that is all ANCIENT history in the NFL times. He has done remarkably little the past 10-15 years. I was so ready to him to hit the road. I am ready for this new chapter. this month was fun. Sure - Khan had money and that makes a HUGE difference. I guess we will see how we draft - like you said, don't draft a guy w #1 that can be had in Round 3!

I wanted them to re-sign Sutton to be their #2 CB, then draft a guy who would become their #1 CB, and let Wallace be their #3 CB.

The CB position is one of deepest ones in the draft, there will be good players available up until the third round IMO, they need to get one of guys in the top 10 at the position.

I think there are 3 CBs that are as close to being have to takes at 17.....if all 3 are gone....I wouldn't take one till the next pick....., but I very much doubt all 3 will be gone. Too many other players will be taken before 17.

    well, yes....

but it's about odds. odds are better early as a statistical matter early than in latter rounds.

    maybe

    maybe not.

Ben was special. could win games magically early in his career and had a HOF cast of defenders (and HOF DC) to help him. I am not sure how good Tomlin is and i have serious doubts about Canada.

    We will see.
