In 93 Joe mo wanted to end his career with his hometown team but the Steelers no because we had O'Donnell so Joe went to kc. With that defense I bet he could have ended with 6 rings.

Man, could you imagine? Here's the interview for those interested. The Steeler mention is about 3 and half minutes in.

omg ya kidding me! I never ever heard anything about that. I don't know how many more SB's over all we would have but I know we would have beat Dallas had Joe been under center :frustrated:

Wouldn't that have been a story Steve Young vs Joe Montana in the Superbowl, could have happend if he came here and we would have one the 94 AFCCG against the Chargers. But, we were missing one key guy..... Jerry Rice.

It hurts in hindsight, of course. But imagine if we hadn't got to the superbowl in those years - some freak play happened, or we moved away from running the ball because Joe wanted more throws, or whatever... then we would be here today wondering what would have happened if we had kept O'Donnell...

But when I say it hurts in hindsight - it really, really does hurt.

There' really no one that can't stand #14 as much as myself reflected by the way my user name implies but I will give credit where credit is due.

The Steelers more than likely had absolutely no interest in Joe Montana because of the money it would have demanded and they seem to have found a rising star QB who had precision passing with zip on the ball in an environment that was very suited for him. For crying out loud, Cowher loved him to death and had an honest to god belief in the kid. Up until 2 seasons ago when Aaron Rogers shattered the record, he had the 2nd best overall completion percentage in the history of the NFL that now ranks 3rd today. He and Thigpen had a chemistry that was tops in the league. Unstoppable at times.

Wishful thinking is one thing but from back then to now I doubt that Montana ever had a chance to be a Steeler. It simply wasn't in the cards.

That being said SBXXX is still a mystery to me if the ball just truely slipped twice to the same below average CB. I can only speculate more after he was wisked off into the sunset after the game by the J-E-T-S and never even considering flying home on the team plane.

Thats all I have to say for that clown. Please don't ever mention his name to me again. It still boils my blood to this day.[IMG]

That was 1 of 2 SuperBowls I have seen in person.. it sucked big time. XIV vs the Rams was the other one.

Thats 2 more than me truckin'.

SB XXX I had a party in N. KY. attended by about 80% of Bengals fans rooting against the Steelers and I was so confident that they would be the Cryboys that I was welcoming each and everyone of them to witness the defeat so you can probably imagine my disgust. Probably not the same financial level of your experience but disgusted nontheless.

SB XIV against the Rams is still my favorite though. Remember it like it was yesterday. I was only 14 and in my uncle's bar. Wasn't drinking of coarse but there is no way you could do that today. You may have heard all the car horns all the way in Sunny California from Pittsburgh after that victory. It went on all night!

I got the tickets to both games for free. Won the tickets from a radio contest for the Rams game. Was employed by one of the stadiums sponsors for the Dallas game.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Keeping Johnny Unitas would have been good too.

What the heck were they thinking? This is a deal they absolutely should have taken. To put things into perspective, look at the interest that Peyton Manning got this year. There were several teams in the running, but I was shocked there weren't more. Look at the teams in the Brett Favre sweepstakes the year he went to the Jets (this after just losing the NFC Championship game). Unless you were the Patriots, Steelers, Colts (for Favre), Giants, Saints, and Packers you didn't have a Superbowl winning QB on your roster. But if you are the Atlanta Falcons, for example, you believe in Matt Ryan and so weren't interested in Manning. Now, I'm not so sure the Steelers had the same faith in Neil Odonnell at that time. But it does make you wonder.

He was paid VERY well for those 'slips' and no one will ever convince me otherwise. Theres a reason he never came back to the city.

Listening to that video he says something to the extent of " I called the Steelers, before going to the Chiefs", but something is amiss. If I remember correctly he was traded to the Chiefs, so the calling the Steelers thing seems rather suspect.

That's possible, but he wouldn't be calling the Steelers trying to work a trade.

Teams give players permission to seek a trade and that includes talking to other teams
