He's growing on me. Him, Gonzales, or Jr. in the first wouldn't be a bad thing.

Whoever we pick at 17 and 32 must be a day one contributor.

I've seen 2 mocks do far that have the Steelers picking Julius Brents, CB from Kansas State in pick #49. Brents is the tallest corner in the draft at 6'4" and weighs 205. At 6'4" he also has a 39.5" vertical leap. He has some ball skills too picking off 4 passes last season. The knock on him is that he doesn't have top end speed but it isn't that bad at a 4.55 forty.

I think Ringo is going to blow-up the CB rankings after the NFL Combine.

Coming out early as a RS Sophomore. He will only be 20 when the draft takes place in March.

Here are Ringo's stats from 2019 as a High School Senior.
Ringo, one of the bigger cornerbacks in the nation at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, won the Fastest Man championship with 40-yard laser times of 4.36 and 4.35 seconds.

Let him blow up the combine. He has stiff hips and he isn't very good in man coverage. If he gets taken early it drops one more player we want to our pick.

Thats straight line speed. None of that matters when your hips and ankle flexion is stiff. He lacks short area quickness, good change of direction and instincts for the position. Honestly he would probably be better off playing strong safety and keeping all of the action in front of him. Terrel Edmunds was really fast by the way. Its like drafting a QB with a cannon for an arm who can’t read defenses and lacks the intangibles. I really hope the Steelers do not draft this guy even in round three.

Funny, I was thinking the other day that he might be a good safety conversion like Jordan Poyer. I was going to watch some more games to see if he has the necessary toughness tackling and supporting the run defense before suggesting it.

He does. But he is a smooth CB too. So I doubt he'd be moved to safety.

I expect he'd drop to the 2nd. We can have him at 32.

My bad, didn't realize you were talking about Ringo. Assumed you were discussing Cam :) ☺️

So what your saying is this draft is deep at CB. I sure do hope we double dip at the CB position in this draft and solidify the position once and for all for about half a decade at least.

Looked Smooth today. No problem with speed. 4.43. Hell He got faster as He ran. Funny how people tried to down Him ,and say .....He will be slow.
Now with His great tape, and good combine. I still have Him at My favorite DB....with Porter Jr, and Gonzalez 1b.
I wrote this elsewhere, but figured I put in the correct place.

Fair enough. You've been on him from jump. I was expecting a 4.55 . So good for him. But he may still end up a 2ne rounder anyway coz Deonte Banks pretty much leapfrogged him with his workout and tape.

    So it's
    Winterspoon
    Gonzalez
    Joey P
Deonte Banks as the first tier

Cam, Stevenson, Forbes, Phillips, Ringo, Brents Rush, Ricks, etc. Lead the 2nd tier

The NFL Network was saying yesterday that the 2 deepest positions in this years draft is CB and TE.

I hadn’t heard much about Banks as a 1st round prospect, so I watched the Michigan offense vs. Maryland defense video and locked in on #3 for Maryland. That first tape was a mixed bag. For 3 quarters he looked solid, especially sticking with WRs in man coverage when lined up outside. He communicated with his teammates when there was motion, and even sniffed out a reverse pass and forced the passer to eat the football. He showed high football IQ in passing receivers off and taking them on in zone. However, in the 4th quarter they lined him up in man coverage in the slot with a single high safety, and he got embarrassed for a really ugly TD on a crosser. Then he wasn’t even in the game for several snaps in a row. When he came back, he blew contain badly on a 50 yard TD run down the sideline. Those plays were key differences between a loss and an upset win for Maryland.

Now I’m not saying that Banks isn’t 1st round worthy based on 2 terrible snaps in 1 quarter of football, but it gives me pause for sure. I have a lot more watching to do of all of the corners before I have my pecking order down, and I will certainly be watching more of Banks.

He definitely looked smooth at the combine but as you say the game tape is really what matters. Branch from Michigan looks phenomenal on film but very average at the combine, of course he wasn’t asked to play man much at Michigan. So many of these guys are scheme dependent so based on what the Steelers do it is important to draft the right one. There are a few of course that can play in any scheme. Out of curiosity have you evaluated Porter Jr. yet? I am curious what all the fuss is about. He doesn’t really look that special on film, he hasn’t really had a lot of production or splash plays and at the combine he was just ok in from what I saw. I get that he has awesome measurable etc. I don’t think he was challenged a lot in College but was that because he was that good or was the CB on the other side just significantly inferior to the extent it was easy just to throw it that way? What is his football IQ and instincts like?
