Last time I speak of SD this year, but jumping in the " way back machine" Rivers was going to be the Steelers pick in the draft, and things happened and we ended up with Ben. Ben was their second choice if I remember, and we took him 13th bc SD took the FO' s " guy" already. Glad it worked out, but aside from River's competitive nature he did well, and if not for us, Pats and Ravens, SD should've been in a Super Bowl by now. Norv didn't help much either. Rivers had some great talent which any fan can't deny especially a few years ago. So, imagine Ben a Charger........on to next week!

They could have Michael Turner Darren Sproles and Vincent Jackson on their team right now.

I have to blame the Chargers FO. Can't blame Rivers.

Thanks to the football gods it didn't happen. I can't stand that whiny ...................harbaugh (that's code) I hate the way he shot puts the ball. I really believe his receiver's great hands have made him look good.

That's because they're the Chargers! The players they've thrown away would fill a wing in Canton, Starting with Lance Alworth.

Cowher wanted Rivers but when he wasn't there then he was going to draft Andrews. Rooney had to step in and overrule his brain trust and told them to take Ben. He didn't want to pass up another Marino. Also Ben was taken 11th overall not 13th.

Did well. Yeah, except that every other play he was spiking the ball in the backfield. I've never seen a QB of his calibre be so afraid to make a play in my life. Good riddance, I say. We dodged a bullet there.

I thought I heard Ben was their 2nd choice (behind Manning who wasn't falling), and they were ecstatic that they got him. That could be lip service after the fact, but who knows.

I specifically remember pulling into my driveway as they were announcing Dunta Robinson being picked at #10, going in the house and putting the draft on, and them showing Roethlisberger in the green room being interviewed when the phone rang....when I heard say "hey coach," I started screaming and jumping up and down....I KNEW we had hit the jackpot, dunno why....just knew it

EDIT: and yes, Cowher was pimping Rivers beyond belief.....whew!

Cowher was in love with Rivers. I'm sure they would have taken Eli but he was never expected to fall to 11. Here is Rooney from his book:

I remember Cowher had a man crush on Rivers and Tommy Maddox was actually pissed off that they took Roethlisberger.
    :roflmao:

Shut up Tommy and just get me my discount double check!
