Does TJ convince JJ to come to the Burgh?

Honestly, I’d prefer him as another catching TE receiver with Muth.

Kinda like when the when the Pats had Gronk and Hernandez that gave defenses fits. If the NFL is such a copy cat league then I wonder why nobody had really tried that again - it was so effective.

A big part of why that worked is both guys could block. Gronkowski was a dominant in-line blocker. Neither Freiermuth nor Heyward is particularly good in that area.

    What position would he play?

I assume he would play defensive end and occasionally even some tackle on passing downs. If I remember correctly, he even played some nose tackle for the Texans, though I doubt he would do that again.

It's all moot, anyway. Given his health scare this year, I don't think there is much of a chance of him returning.

We need our draft picks and we need to get younger. We don’t need some guy that’s washed up.

J.J. Watt is not washed up. The guy can still play. I doubt he would have even considered retiring if he hadn't had the health scare during the season.

If we needed a mercenary to get us over the top then sure, but we need to build this team.

In a sense, Ogunjobi was a mercenary this year. Most teams need a few mercenaries. To be fair, I wouldn't trade for one, but supposedly, the Cardinals had made it clear they were going to cut him if he hadn't announced he was retiring. In that case, signing him for a year wouldn't have been a terrible idea as long as it was an affordable contract.

I can certainly understand your side, that they don't need to add aging veterans, but I think they can at least contend for a playoff spot next year. They were already very close this year.

I do take issue with the idea that he is washed up. That simply isn't true. He's not a DPOY candidate any longer, but he can definitely still play.

Yeah, 12.5 sacks this season is not wasted up

No, well, at least not as a player.

I wouldn't mind if JJ was a coach though.

Good points scribe. What do you think we would have to give up in a trade to get Jj?

Nothing. From what I read, he was likely to be a cap casualty in the offseason. That got lost in the news of him announcing his retirement.

Yeah, but I don’t know if it’s gonna work out that easy. If he would decide to come out of retirement that I’m sure the Cardinals would know that it’s because he’s going to sign somewhere else obviously. So they’re not gonna just cut him at that point. I would think they’d want to get some kind of compensation?

The Dan Patrick show was speculating that he may take a year off to work on his health and then try a 1 season victory lap with the Packers.

If they go that route, they could get stuck paying him, which they don't want. I said all along that I wouldn't trade for him, but I could see signing him at a reasonable rate if he became available. Based on what I've read about Arizona's intentions, that might not have been a sure thing, but it would have been realistic.

It's all moot, anyway. I think he's really done.

Not sure why people get so focused on age. Would signing him make us better? If so, and we can get him for nothing, then it would be foolish not to do it. Why does it matter that he's getting older?

I don't know if we could get him for nothing. He doesn't sound like he wants to play, and if he did, the Cardinals could likely get something for him.

That would be a 9-technique. JJ is a 5-technique DE, but can play as a 3-tech or a 1 (just like Cam Hayward). It’s based on where they line up based on the o-line and what gaps they are responsible for.

He and Cam on the field together would be awesome to see. Like the old days of Aaron Smith and The Beard

I would rather have Terrell Edmunds convince his brother Tremaine come play for the Steelers .

Agreed, but the Ravens didn't help with that one by overpaying Roquan Smith.
