I believe there are seven moves we need to make for this team to be a true contender.

    1. settle and establish who the OC is. I’m torn on Canada. If we are certain we can bring in someone better then go for it.

    2. draft O’Cyrus the OG out of Florida in the second rd. Replaces Dotson at LG. Would love to get a LT but I don’t think we have the draft capital realistically to do it.

    4. Draft one of the top 3 CB’s on round one to finally have a shutdown CB.

    5. Resign Cam Sutton and extend William Jackson on 1 year prove it deal. We finally will have a legit secondary with some depth.

    6. Resign Edmonds to long term deal to complement Minkah.

    7. Draft Drew Sanders at ILB. Finally an athletic, instinctual mlb that can play the run and the pass equally well.

    8. Outside free agent signing splash - Derrone Payne. Pair him up with Heyward to solidify the run defense and provide inside pressure non the QB.

we didn’t address the LT or spot WR but we did enough to make the team a contender.

we can draft the other two positions in next years draft to complete the rebuild. I also believe Moore has shown improvement this year and perhaps Austin will show something at Slot next year.

We're not getting O'Cyrus in the 2nd. And if we got him, you play him at RG and move Daniels to LG. I'm not against going CB in the first. The way things are shaking out, looks like the Steelers will be drafting in an area where the first tier likely won't fall to them and getting a second tier might be too much of a reach. O'Cyrus seems to be worth 20th-30th from the average of the 3 simulators I do. O'Cyrus is the guy that I want the most in this draft. I think we can find a starting LT in the second round. Seems to be a fairly deep OT class.

I’m not high on him either but to replace him at this point is a luxury with so many other needs. I really like the Safety from Boise. He is like a hybrid mlb box strong safety.

I think your right on O’Cyrus not being there in rd 2. Would you take him before 20 if you were us? I didn’t put him at right guard because now your moving two people and asking everyone to gel again instead of just one side of the line gelling. The CB situation is difficult because based on where we are projected to draft we’re probably going to miss out on the top 3 cb’s. The OT class and DT class is weak and that’s probably too early for a guard unless another Faneca exists. MLB would be nice but there really aren’t any worth it at that spot.

I have a feeling we are gonna draft the LT from OH ST. He fits a need, the new front office likes to focus on the line of scrimmage and it’s Ohio St. a school we love to draft from. I would be ok with the pick although I think OCyrus would have a bigger impact for us and I think Dotson is the one that is hurting us the most. Perhaps they would slide Dan Moore inside.

O'Cyrus is a RG from all the scouting reports I've read, so the only person that would need to be moved would be Daniels and the major key to signing him last year was his flexibility to play all three IOL positions. Daniels on the left would help Moore a ton.

As for Johnson, I just don't see him sliding past the 15th pick. I could see the Steelers moving up or down depending on what they want. Steelers probably don't take O'Cyrus at 16th. I think their guy is JPJR.

I wonder how much it would help Kenny to reunite him with Jordan Addison. Like what the Bengals did for Burrow by adding Chase.

It could help, but part of why that worked so well for the Bengals was Chase being a dominant player. Addison isn't quite on that level.

All of that said, I can't see them spending a first-round pick on any receiver. Maybe Addison falls to the second round, but I doubt it.

I don't look for the Steelers to add a WR till late rounds if at all. Way too many needs
before a #3 WR. You can't pay them all, and Pickens and DJ will want paid down the road.
Dj is already collecting 18 mill/yr. Pickens will want some of that when his rookie contract is done.

Then sign him to a 1 year deal and replace him next year. No need to commit to him long term.

Yeah, I know that Addison isn’t close to Chase’s level, but he won’t go top 10 either. I’m thinking he could make it to the pick we got for Claypool after his relatively low output in 2022. Pickett and Addison did seem to have a superb connection in 2021.

It’s probably not what I would do, but it’s worth thinking about.

Addison would be great unfortunately we just don’t have the luxury of picking a wr that early. We need help at DL, OL, CB and MLB and possibly S before WR. This draft is light at MLB, DL and OL from a top tier talent perspective. The draft is deep at CB however which were not very good at assessing. With that being said if Gonzalez or Porter JR. fall to us in round 1 we have to take a long a look at them. Imagine actually having a true shut down corner and pairing them with Minkah on the back end. I am really hoping we solid this defense and run game next season to make life on Kenny Pickett much simpler. It appears that we are building for that after these last few games. The DL is going to be decimated in free agency. I am hopeful we go get a blue-chipper in free agency for the DL and focus on the draft for the OL and CB. The MLB position on our team is a conundrum. Our best thumpers our Spillane and the Rookie Robinson. Busch has improved but he really isn’t great at anything and hopefully we let him walk and Mack didn’t live up to expectations. We need to invest early in the draft for a premier talent at MLB. The only one I see is Drew Sanders from Arkansas. If we could get him at 33 I would jump on it.

My man crushes in this draft are the following:

    O’Cyrus Torrence G Florida (Late 1st)
Drew Sanders ILB Arkansas (Late 1st early 2nd)
Devon Witherspoon CB Illinois (Late 1st early 2nd)
JL Skinner S Boise State (Mid to late 2nd)

If we could swing some trades and actually move back in the first round perhaps we could snag 3 of these guys. JL Skinner could play a hybrid role as a third safety and cover RB’s and TE’s.

Depending on which draft site you go to, Ringo is either a top 10, number one cornerback. Or he's an early second rounder. Doesn't seem to be any in between.

I watched him in the game against Ohio State. I don’t see the twitchiness or lateral movement skills. He was getting beat a lot and he is grabby. The Steelers really need to nail it on the CB they select. This draft is deep, hopefully they do their homework on this position.

I watched tape on this guy. I really like him. Based on his tape he is definitely a top three CB. I would actually rate him, Gonzalez and Witherspoon all above Porter Jr. but I know Porter has the measurables that the scouts love. Regardless that is four bonafide CB #1 in the first round. I would think at least one of them would be available on draft day. I am not impressed on any of the Tackle prospects for first round consideration. The Ohio State OT looked no better than Moore in the game against Georgia. He gave up a sack to a speed rusher in that game. On the Defensive side regarding DL I just don’t see a pick worthy of 1st round consideration that would be available to us. Bresee may be available but he really hasn’t put up enough production to warrant picking him in the first round. I would much rather go the free agent route for a defensive lineman and draft CB. I was always against drafting CB’s because we can’t develop them but this draft just has too many blue chippers and we have need. The only other guy I would consider drafting in round one outside of one of the CB’s is O’Cyrus Torrence. I feel like he would really solid our offensive line. I don’t know if he is a fit though as we seem to want to go smaller and more athletic for zone blocking. If we don’t get Torrence then I would go after Vorheese in the second round who has that road grader mentality about him at Guard. So many needs and so many choices. I am perplexed.

You and I seem to be on the same page. I think we both lean old school and are about the defense. With that said who are some prospects you like next year?

    Oh....Definitely all about the Defense.
Honestly I don't get that far ahead. I'm still way too busy with what's coming out, and going on for this coming draft.

The combine changes everything. I'm sure there are 2nd and 3rd round prospects right now that will end up being 1st rounders, while some 1st round prospects at the moment will drop into the 2nd/3rd as well. Hard to get too jazzed up about prospects until we know a bit more about their projected spots post-combine.

I agree with a lot of your comments. I would be all for taking a LT but I don’t think there is a blue chipper at LT this year and if there was one the choice would be between that position and CB. I believe with the talent at CB in the draft we need to snag one of them in the first round and finally sure up that position. Our Line isn’t perfect but it has come a long way since the beginning of the year. You gotta check out Drew Sanders. He just brings an intensity that we are surely lacking in the middle. He reminds me a lot of TJ Watt from an intensity standpoint and what appears to be instinctual standpoint yet at ILB. If we can come out of this draft with two defensive starters and add to and solid the defensive line we will really be set on that side of the ball. If we miss on some Online help in the draft hopefully we can pick up some depth pieces in free agency to tide us over until 2024 where we complete the rebuild by drafting for those positions.
