We were only up 2-0 at halftime in Superbowl IX when Franco took over in the second half. The team rode on his shoulders for that first Superbowl win. This is just shockingly sad.

Gonna have to record that and watch it another time. This is just WAY too raw to watch it on Friday.

I just couldn't believe it. I had to come to the board to verify. RIP, my brother. Wow, now this is what you call ... unexpected.

When someone would ask me who my favorite player of all time was, this was always the easy answer. He was also from NJ and my childhood hero. When I met him when he came to VT in 1994, I told him that. He responded by telling me that "you're too young for that".

He was too young to leave us, that's for sure. Still wiped out by this news.

I went to bed last night and little did I know that when I got up, one of the greatest Steelers, who was part of my greatest football memories, would be taken away unexpectedly and without warning. There is little I could possibly do to ease the loss and suffering of the family, friends, fans, and a city, but to give prayers and praise that he was part of my and all of our lives and knowing that he will not be forgotten - ever.

Mike Greenberg on ESPN said it well this morning. "Those of us that are old enough to remember Franco and the Immaculate Reception a piece of us died today".

Mourning with all of Pittsburgh. I grew up without a TV so my first memories of Franco are from John Fleming and Myron Cope. It's Myron's singular voice I can hear saying Franco's name in my head today. Prayers for the family.
