He is cleared to practice, so I'm assuming everything with the injury is fine and the suspension is over.

If him, fitz, edumnds are on the field, i expect Austin to be shifty.

Hopefully witherspoon and sutton return as well.

Also since we are talking with injuries on defense. I'm still thinking week 10 watt returns. And we will crush the taints.

Always liked kazee. He is not a omg, he was a good starter on the falcons. But I expect him to look better on plays with us due to being around better players. He only had two legit players on defense.

    Prior to signing with us.....

After serving as a backup during his rookie season, Kazee was forced into duty in 2018 when Keanu Neal was injured in Week 1. Starting the next 15 games, Damontae registered seven interceptions to tie the NFL leaders that year. He added three more interceptions in 14 starts in 2019.

Unfortunately, his 2020 season was cut short after four games with an Achilles injury. But Kazee is reportedly good to go for next year and will be turning 28 in June.

Kazee started 15 of 17 games for the Cowboys in 2022, registering 52 total tackes, two interceptions, four passes defended and two forced fumbles.

While most fans would like to see the team retain Jayron Kearse and Malik Hooker, a report from FanSided’s NFL insider Matt Lombardo suggests Damontae Kazee will be the hottest commodity on the open market amongst Dallas’ safeties.

There’s no doubting that Kearse and Hooker have more popularity amongst Cowboys fans, but the 28-year-old Kazee helped supply Dallas with stability in the backend of the secondary, so it’s not a huge surprise he has a robust market.

While Dallas isn’t financially equipped to get into a bidding war for Kazee, they have something other teams don’t when it comes to a free agent pitch: Dan Quinn, whom he’s played under in all of his five NFL seasons.

Kazee is the most capable of the Cowboys’ safety trio when it comes to playing the single-high safety role. The team ran a ton of single-high looks under Quinn’s tutelage in 2021, so the innovative defensive coordinator would likely appreciate the idea of having Kazee return in a similar role.

The former fifth-round pick played all 17 games (15 starts) this season and logged a 79% snap share. While Kazee played fewer total snaps than Kearse (94%), he played 602 more snaps at the free safety position than his running mate, per PFF.

Signed to a one-year “prove it” contract after tearing his Achilles in 2020, its fair to say Kazee exceeded expectations with 52 tackles, two interceptions, four passes defended and two forced fumbles. That would certainly explain why he has “several” teams in the mix for his signature.

We wouldn’t go as far as to call Kazee a must-keep, but the front office (Quinn included) should look to bring him back. That said, if teams are willing to pay a premium for him, it might be best to let him walk and pursue a cheaper alternative, whether it be through free agency or the draft

Good. We all thought this D could be pretty good with everyone playing. That was like 38 injuries ago.

He can be. I don't think he will turn is into the omg w have an amazing defense. He's just a good player who finally gets to play with a better core. I would say he's a 7/10

I thought he could at least be decent after what he showed late in 2021, but he was just awful the early part of this season.

In the 2 games that I saw him in he was horrible, he was always 2 yards behind the receiver. Why they didn't give him any help is beyond me. ( oh yeah Tomlin is the coach)

I posted this in the preseason that a Edmunds / Kazee platoon would be awesome but...It's a lot trickier when it's Safeties compared to say RB's...

Edmunds is a stout, very good up at the LOS, sure tackling in the Box Safety..But struggles in pass coverage, and his speed, is at best average...

Kazee... Complete opposite...Ballhawking Safety, who's very quick and twitchy, but slightly built, and not a sure Tackler...

If you could kinda shuffle them in and out based on down and distance...But that's not sureproof or maybe feaseable

I wasn't able to watch the game, the A-holes at FOX switched the game to the Jets instead. Showed steelers all week until game day. :@

Yeah, you and I were all for wanting kazee before he was even talked about as a possibility.

And I agree they are different. Play edmunds when a run is looking like a good possibility. And then kazee for when the throwing is likely.... that'll keep that well rested.
