Why don't we chop block these fools like they do to us?

Everyone is always upset with them having success running against us because they are chop-blocking Hampton. Why don't we do the same to Ngata? Give them some of their own medicine. Win or lose I do hope we lay a few of them out.

In order to give them the same treatment they would have to change the way they run the football. The reason they cut Hampton's knees is because on running plays the defense flows the way the runner is moving. They try to make a huge hole by taking Hampton down and allowing Rice to cut back into the hole. By that time Harrison has already rushed the outside and is trying to run down the play from behind, Keisel is engaged, Hood is moving towards the initial point of attack with Woodley setting the edge and Timmons/Foote flowing in the gaps to prevent the run. Their Ol sells the run in one direction hard then cuts Hampton hoping for the open lane. The Steelers don't run a blocking scheme that way and don't have a cut back runner healthy now so yes they could chop ngata but they would more than likely be giving up a tackle behind the line of scrimmage.

Good call! I've advocated for giving the same medicine as well, but you nailed why they don't. Still, it would be nice to just do it a few times just as a way of saying...you do it, we'll do it, so stop it!

I honestly think Lebeau obsessed over this and I think fixed it.v every time rice went to cut back Timmons or Foote were waiting for him. Lebeau has figured out how to shut down their offense take smith deep and out away and stop rice from cutting back and they have nobody else that can beat you.

And yet they're still cutting Hampton. It looks like he's more comportable at fighting through it now. It may be because he's getting penetration further before they're getting to him with it.

And if Troy plays Sunday as expected he is great at sealing the cutback lanes.

It might not be what we do but make an exception for just a play or two, give them something to think about.

I'm not sure where I heard it, but I heard that the NFL is considering making any block below the knees, illegal. I think that will make it hard for these tiny running backs to take out a blitzing LB.

The rules committee plans on taking a look at making chop blocks illegal, they plan on adressing this issue in their next off season meeting, I agree it should be made illegal, and with all the safety issues it should already be banned IMO....

Since chopping Hampton appears to be part of their game, what if Hampton was given instruction not to engage when the ball was snapped? I'm not suggesting put him out into pass coverage, but if Hampton just stood there and didn't do anything what would the Ravens do? Would they move forward to try and engage him? If so, would that allow someone to shoot that gap since they would be concentrated on Hampton?

Couldn't agree more. The fact that these cut blocks are still tolerated makes the leagues hype on safety issues look like a complete joke.
