So, Miles Garrett gets in a 1 car accident, doesn't appear he was under the influence, 65 in a 45 zone (don't know how they know that) and he's going to be charged failure to control his car? That's a real thing? Apparently so. Article says the max fine is $150.00. Isn't going to the hospital and totaling your Porsche enough?

I don't much care for Garrett either but, failure to control your car? Seems like grasping for something to charge him with. How about destruction fo city/county property for the hydrant he took out? That's gotta be a more serious charge!

I got driving too fast for conditions back in 1989. I wasn't speeding, but couldn't stop in time to hit a car that was stopped in the turning lane in very bad weather....I would have easily stopped on a dry day, but Hydroplaned when I turned onto that lane
I was driving a friend's car because He was sick, and I didn’t really know about cars doing that....because I never had owned a car.

to me, what you’re suggesting sounds like a criminal complaint vs traffic. As a driver the onus is on you to maintain control of your car. Where I’m from the charge would probably have been either negligent or reckless driving. I don’t know if they have negligent or reckless driving in that state.

Difference there is, you hit another car. Garret's was a single car accident.

I know that, technically, he didn't maintain control. It just seems like such a nitpicky thing to charge him with when the max fine is only 150.00. Hell, here, you can be fined 450.00 for driving single in the carpool lane! Not that anyone ever enforces traffic violations in CA anymore.

Now, I read that Miles has been ticketed a bunch of times for speeding so I guess the failure to maintain charge is appropriate. No word on whether they'll add a charge for destroying the hydrant.

I’m glad he wasn’t seriously injured, but I have to confess a broken leg wouldn’t have caused me to shed any tears.

I'd prefer he received an aggressive enema from the hydrant.
Could have a blast with that headline and injury report.
