with the possibility of Ben playing this weekend against the Ravens, is this the best game to try and start DD?

im hearing rumors that he may start this weekend because all the oline injuries they have.

i think the guys going to be a beast, but im a little nervous for his first start to be against one of the best defenses in the league.

I really don't think the Ravens D can be considered one of the best in the league. I'm sure they're better at home, but still. It sounds to me like the line will be - Starks, Colon, Pouncey, Foster and Beachum. I don't think DD plays unless we have injuries.

Of course if Beachum is a turnstile at LT then all bets are off!

Not by a long shot. They are #24 in YPG allowed and #17 in sacks.

they are #7 in points allowed and points per game which is really the only stat that matters. the Steelers are 4th. they might give up a bunch of yards between the 20's, but they still are keeping teams out of the endzone pretty well. the Steelers are 24th in sacks and dead last in takeaways and most people around here think their defense is pretty good. to me yards allowed is a terrible way to determine how good a defense is. i would still consider the Ravens defense to be pretty good.

Yeah but if you are worried about Ben, then sacks is the stat you look at and 17th aint so great.

PPG allowed has nothing to do with protecting Ben.

"Pretty good" and "one of the best in the league" are completely different.

you know as well as i do that the Steelers have a tendency to make sub par teams and players look spectacular. when it comes to the Steelers i usually throw out all the numbers.

sources also said he had a dislocated rib that could potentially stab his aorta and could take 6 weeks to heel, but that magically went away and seemed to have been an over statement.

i will wait until Sunday. we will know if hes playing or not then.

He hasn't played since the injury and most likely will miss this week too, so not sure how anything was over stated. I think the fact that Ben isn't playing speaks for itself.

everything we heard was that the rib was the real injury and that turned out to be not true. the rib seems to be fine now. now they want to see if he can throw because of his shoulder injury.

just saying people tend to hang on every word of these so called "sources"

Kinda tough when the source is Big Ben himself! I agree though, a lot of people playing doctor.

I think one thing we all can count on with the Steelers is that no one will know until a couple hours before game time.

But now you are doing the same thing :lolol: "Seems fine" according to whom? In any rate, the way I understood it, they were one and the same, it's all connected, they had to be cautious with the rib since it was the top rib so that was their primary concern.

That explains it in more detail and you can see a diagram. I'll be shocked if Ben is back this week.
