I've been saying this for years. We need a young imaginative and brilliant OC. Stop hiring these cast offs and old thinking, cheap asst coaches. The Wiz, was the last, great OC that we've had. Arians, turned out to be a great HC, but was getting Ben killed as an OC.

You do know that Kevin Gilbride won two SBs as a OC for the Giants after We fired Him. His problem was K. Stewart not His play calls.

No, his problem was he could not build an offense to Stewart's strengths, something Chan Gailey and Mike Mularkey did with better success. Thanks for pointing out that Gilbride was the OC for a #1 overall draft pick. Stewart was no Eli Manning?

If you give Andy Reid, Harris, Johnson, Claypool, Freiermuth, he would make things happen, even with Trubisky at qb.

Why? Why do people keep talking about Trubisky as though he is some unproven rookie? He is in his 6th fu*king year, guys. There is plenty of tape on the man. There is a good reason he was riding the bench last year as an unrestricted free agent while other teams were trading assets to get the likes of Sam Darnold and Teddy Bridgewater.

I'm not here to defend Canada. I done it enough last season. But I will say that the biggest problem on this offense is the talent on the field, or lack there of. Quite a few of those passes on 3rd down was thrown to the sticks only for receivers to run backwards. They cost us a few 1st down conversions running backyards as opposed to simply falling forward. Mitch also missed Pickens twice and just couldn't find guys open in the middle of the field. And I really haven't mentioned how horrendous our OL is at run blocking.

This is practically the same offense that the Chiefs run, and lets be frank... if Eric Bieniemy was calling the plays with this talent, we'd be getting the same results.

You talk about botched time management, decision making. I had enough of Paul Hackett and it sure looks like this Hackett isn't any better. Icould care less about Broncos, but supposedly are one of the teams we could be fighting for a playoff spot

I am curious too how much Mitch/ KP have authorization to audible from a play.
With all the preset reads these QB's must make, they surely have some leeway to change play
    when a defense shifts/doesn't shift?

Yeah. The teams thinking Darnold or Bridgewater were the answer made stupid decisions. To be fair, I was wrong about Darnold, too.

Do the Chiefs refuse to throw the ball to the middle of the field? Where are the slants? Crossing patterns over the middle? Post routes? I mentioned this on another thread. Opposing defenses have to be seeing this and taking advantage of it by stacking the line and focusing their coverage on the sidelines.

But the recievers do run routes in the middle of the field. Mitch didn't find them last week and Ben threw slants to DJ all the time (just short of the first dahn marker.)

Look at the throw charts and notice how empty the intermediate and deep middle have been last year and in the opener. They need to make that a priority, design more and better plays to get receivers open in that area. If the Steelers can't do damage in that area of the field, it makes things too easy for opposing defenses. We see a version of that when the Steelers play the Ravens. They know Jackson is weak throwing to the sidelines, so they try to force him to throw it there until he proves he can do damage there. I think that is what opposing defenses are doing to the Steelers, stacking the line and focusing their coverage on short routes and the sidelines, basically daring Pittsburgh to make some more aggressive throws over the middle. That will continue until the Steelers make them change.

why do the steeler coaches think they should run a chiefs type offense?? Do we have Mahomes? Or a good OL?

I could be the coach and claim I want a Brady type offense, then blame the talent for not being like Brady… lol

Also, I don’t think the coaches teach the players anything. The WRs running backwards or turning ahead of sticks is due to bad coaching. Harp on the fundamentals until thr players get it - that’s what practice is for.

Last time I checked, Steelers had their best offense since 1978-79....from 2014-2017. 4 seasons and only 3 playoff wins. Defense wasn't great...only Shazier and Heyward stood out. It was an epic failure to not at least appear in a Super Bowl during those years. I blame Popcorn.

I don't know....only thing I do know is the only Qb I saw in preseason repeatedly make changes at the line was Mason....So that makes Me think the others just don't know all the terminology yet, or they have been told not to...
I don't know the answer....just telling what I have seen.
