Problem was Mitch wasn't hitting those throws when he had them. He was killing it in preseason on those types, but was off too much regular game.

If we lose Watt for the season, we’ll then, that’s a wrap.
We won the battle but will lose the war.

I don't think we are winning the War with TJ Watt even healthy.

Healthy team and healthy TJ we are 9 to maybe 10 win team.

But without him take away 3-4 wins easily. More like a 6 to 7 win team with TJ gone for the year I fear.

    Maybe I will be wrong....

What? Why? If an injury takes 6-8 weeks to fully heal then why on earth would you sit out for the rest of the season anyway.

    It’s healed, you play.

Didn't JJ have same injury? Did he miss entire season?

I was looking for the analytics on this, as I have seen them in hockey and baseball. I found where TJ is 0.41 WAR (wins above replacement). Which apparently is high but seems to vastly underestimate his impact.

I found this site which shows without TJ OPP PPG 28 vs with TJ OPP PPG 20, albeit with a small sample size (4 games without TJ AND 0-4 in those games!). Those 8 points per game are huge for this offense and not difficult to believe since TJ could easily impact several drives per game. https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/steelers-stats-with-and-without-t.j.-watt

    nope.

Watt suffered a torn pec with the Texans in 2019. He suffered the injury in Week 8 and returned just over two months later. The full recovery timeline for a torn pec is typically three-to-four months,

Last year the were 9-3 in games he fully played.
0-4-1 in games he missed or games he left early and didn't return.

He is getting 2nd opinion which is a bad sign IMO

You don't keep looking for answers if you get the answer you want in the first place

it never ceases to amaze me how many the glass is half empty people there are on this board. You have absolutely no idea whatsoever what tj is thinking. Quit claiming the sky is falling and wait for the official announcement tomorrow

Jay also dropped a bombshell and started another thread. Did you realize that Tom Brady doesn’t play for the patriots anymore?

There are many reasons why he might seek out more opinions. Perhaps there isn't enough clarity in the answer he got. My best guess based on what I've read is that this one falls in a gray area. Surgery may be the safer option long term, but it may be realistic for him to rehab it and return this season. The question in that case might be just how much risk he is taking by trying to play this year.

In that case, it would make perfect sense to seek out a second and third opinion.

I have some experience with this. I had one doctor recommend surgery on my foot. I certainly didn't love the idea, but I didn't seek more opinions because I wanted to avoid surgery. I did it because it wasn't a slam-dunk decision. I went for a second opinion and that doctor recommended avoiding surgery. Since they were split, I saw a third doctor. He recommended the surgery. After gathering all of the information, I opted for the procedure. Watt certainly has the time and money to get all of the opinions he could want and he's got a career at stake as well as his health, so it makes perfect sense for him to seek out more answers if there is any lack of clarity at all based on the first doctor's opinion.

You took that as the sky is falling? All my posts have been making fun of those people since yesterday. Its just my theory that its a bad sign that he wants more opinions... I doubt the doctors said you need 6 weeks rest and he said BS I'm done for the year....I mean maybe it's good news, I just think logically you don't keep looking for your keys once you find your keys

@Formerscribe I agree with you, but even in your personal example it started with I was told I needed surgery but I didn't want to get surgery so I got a 2nd opinion

Why do we only get updates from national guys? The Pittsburgh papers' beat writers never scoop anything. They also hardly ever ask anything but softball questions at pressers. Some of the weakest sports reporters out there

Because there’s no money in leaking information to the local media. These national guys pay their sources for some of this information.

When TJ had his knee problems in college, he did use JJ’s Dr’s.

According to Dejan k all the reports we are hearing are crap. According to him TJ doesn’t even know yet. Supposedy he isn’t going for 2nd/3rd opinions. He is going in for more tests tomorrow
