Why can't our receivers run open?

I know we have many OL problems, but watching other teams in NFL their
route trees see more players flashing open. I like our receiving core and believe they can get separation.
So why can't we copy some of these other team's routes to see if we also can get WR's open?
Pickens and DJ I know can get separation.

Probably has a lot to do with how close safeties play to the line of scrimmage vs us. If we are running short routes with a packed box it’s hard to get separation. Nobody is afraid of us going deep we never try or hit those throws.

Ive wondered this for a few years now. I watch other games and the WRs flash wide open all the time.

As stated above, it’s probably as simple as everything this O has shown now the last few seasons is they play behind the chains. The D just clogs everything up with no fear of getting the odd lob over the top anymore.

They have no trust in Moore, an throw quick as possible.

Without watching the game film it's because the QB has issues getting the WR's the ball. There are reasons why the Steelers drafted KP. At some point KP will start.

For all the skill DJ has I don't have great confidence in him making the right choice with the ball in his hands. He has very little situational awareness, something that should have been corrected by now.

Typically in the NFL guys don't run "wide open" unless there is a breakdown in coverage or a guy "sits" in an opening in a zone. However, they can get open by NFL standards on their own... either by the WR running a great route or the QB and WR having great timing. I have a feeling that we had some guys open and Trubisky just missed them. He didn't seem very anticipatory, thus throwing the timing off completely. There was one slant route that Claypool ran where he was open almost immediately and the hesitation from Trubisky actually allowed the defense to close in on Chase. We got the first down on the play anyway, but if its a second earlier Claypool is pretty "wide open". He just waited too long and it was a contested catch. I have a feeling that happened more than just that once.

Hard to tell who is or is not open on TV. Much easier to see in person. I just know when I watch other teams it just seems easier. Maybe its bc I'm a steelers fan, but it feels like its very hard for the team to move the ball. I guess the packers, cowboys, and pats fans prob feel the same today. At least we feel this way with a dub

Plus it looked like the same offense to me. How fast can we get to the sideline or how many yards in the backfield can we let the rb get hit.

I'm more concerned with why they keep running their routes short of the first down markers on 3rd and 4th downs....its perplexing .

Just out of curiosity, how do you know Pickens can get seperation?

How did his 1 catch for 3 yards on 3 targets give you such confidence?

I'm not calling you out. I too think Pickens is going to be good. I really do put a lot on the play calling

    EXHIBIT A:
Juju went 6 for 79 yesterday

In the 5 game he was healthy last year under Canada he was 15 for 129

Obviously 1 game in KC is a small sample size... but if it continue he theoretically could be looking at 30 catches for 400 yards after week 5, maybe his most yards since year 2 when opposite AB he made the pro bowl.

    HACK

Without re-watching the game, or looking at coaching film it is hard to say. My impression during the game was the Mitchell was out of sorts. I thought the line gave him adequate protection. I am in no way saying they played well, but they did play better than I thought they would. Trubisky seemed jittery to me. He was eager to escape the pocket even when he didn't need to. There were definitely times when he threw off his back foot without being pressured. My guess is that there were guys to throw to had Trubisky dropped back, set his feet, and delivered throws on time. Once the timing of the play is off it basically becomes a scramble drill.

There were receivers open yesterday. The problem was, Trubisky either didn't see them or missed on the throws.

If true, got to be O-line related. Just another second of protection would make a difference.

Can`t run ball plus little time to throw ball is disastrous for the offense.

I disagree. Run blocking was abysmal as usual. However, the pass protection wasn't a disaster. Trubisky had time to throw on several plays. He just missed the receiver or never saw the guys who were open.

If teams.dont fear the running game they will walk up and jam the WRs.... To me, it is mainly on the O line.

I`m waiting on verification of that, that`s why I said "If." Can`t see much on TV. If Mitch is missing open receivers and his throws go to guys who are covered instead, he won`t be starter for long.

I`m not confident in this upcoming game against the lowly Patsies facing QB Jones with a hurting back or his backup QB due to our own injuries on defense. Opportunity to win easy game will be lost if we play lousy.

The OC sucks, and has sucked since Haley. The offensive game plan is garbage and easy to defend against.

the game plan ended up with a WR as the leading rusher and a TE as the leading receiver.
