And while we're on the topic, it's lose not loose.

Something clearly happened to Ben in the Dallas game. His wasnt the only injury that led to the finish they had but certainly the biggest.

The smoke and mirrors argument is :bscow:

You don’t win 11 games in a row in this league without being good. Injuries sunk them, most noticeably Bens, his play fell off a cliff after the Dallas game.

    Definition of standard:

"used or accepted as normal or average."

Mike Tomlin knows who he is and so do we when it comes to coaching.

so, I will give you that, to some extent. We were good early on, but we were the worst late season undefeated time I had seen, in a long time. The shoe was ready to fall at any given moment......and it did......and hard. As SOON as the league figured out the 2 step drop, pop pass left and right, they closed in, on the offense. and as soon as DuPree went out with his ACL, the D was done. have not been able to run the ball in YEARS.

we did just beat the 'teams on the schedule', but look at it, it was a pansy schedule. Titans was a good test, Ben was amazing in bringing us back in that one.

it does not matter - we CRASHED and BURNED when it counted most - in DECEMBER and JAN.

Tomlin is a above average coach but light years from the Mcvey and Shanahans and Reid’s levels. A defensive focus cannot work in this league anymore and the clowns in front office don’t know that and have prepared for 2007 instead of 2022. Who else waste all there money on defense in todays all offense league. All the rules are set up for offense to defeat any defense. Throw in the fact that we have the most expensive d in the league but can’t stop inside zone for gods sake. We really just spent. A ton of cap space on safeties. We will be a middling team until Tomlin leave and front office wakes up from 2008 team building.

I know that's the popular cliche but, just look at the last 10 SBs. Some pretty good defensive efforts. Unless you think the Bucs won simply because Brady is a barnyard animal. Or Pats-Rams. 13-3. Not a lot of offense there. Or the Seattle-Denver. blow out.

still believe in rock solid D. how about this one - RUN the football.....and STOP the run. We could do neither last year. that would have been my #1 offseason priority. I am not sure it was MikeyT's.....

my hope is they 'ask him to leave'. they will never 'fire' him. i am guessing it will take 2 or 3 - 6 and 7 win seasons for any change.

Our problem with the run is poor DB play .. Edmunds is a liability and we really have no CB who can play on a island, this leads to lots of cover 2 and cover 3 giving the other Team the blocking advantage in the box..Until we can run some cover 0 and cover 1 on early downs stopping the run will be a big problem..

As crazy as this may seem the key to stopping the run starts with press man coverage. This is probably why they been calling Haden the Coaches can see all the cracks on film...I have no doubt we will rank dead last against the run this season unless we choose to let our DB'S get torched...

The way I look at it, Popcorn has bought 3 more years MiNIMUM, no matter what happens...

Suck this year: No more Ben, and a new QB...

Suck in 23: New QB again ( Picketts first year ) bought him another year...

Suck in 24: MAYBE that's it, but I still doubt it, MAYBE put on notice...

He would have to then, IMO suck.......4 years in a row to be let go, and I don't think that's gonna happen...

So Tomlin is our HC for the foreseeable Future... Regardless of record

Let's just hope Tomlin doesn't screw around and win a SB before that time. That would really muck up your 3 year plan.

Didn't our competition during some of those 11 wins have significant injuries as well, especially at their QB position?

Have no idea, feel free to do the work on that.

Doesn't change what I said, winning 11 games in a row in the NFL is ****ing hard.

Also, losing Dupree didn't help matters any. This injury pretty much killed the defense.

That didn't matter, the offense wasn't sustainable. The Ravens figured it out and the Redskins exploited it followed by every other team they played that season except for 1 quarter where they (Ben) got lucky and won the Colts game.
Many said it was not sustainable at the week 7/week 8 point and they were exactly right, myself included.

We're probably a year away from winning 1 playoff game. 2 years from 2+. That's assuming we draft OL and DL highly in the next 2 drafts. Just enjoy the ride.

It's very hard to win 11 straight games in the NFL, no doubt. It's even harder to drop 5 out of the next 6 games, unless what won those first 11 games has been figured out and exploited. Chase Young clearly voiced it after the first loss but the standard remained the substandard.

That 2020 team was legitimately good but I think we all saw it going off the rails and knew they weren’t going to be a factor in the postseason. Injuries were definitely a factor, the killer was that they all came together just when you’d want to be healthy and rolling in November / December.

Even at that they weren’t a real contender and should never have gotten to 11-0. They had incredible good fortune on that run and Ben was not great even before the injury in the Dallas game. He was never leading a team to a Super Bowl IMO, even if they had stayed healthy and the defence continued to dominate.
