Was not expecting this. Both us and them.

"Goff didn’t play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Colts after Detroit and Indianapolis participated in joint practices last week. Campbell joked that though Goff talked his way into playing the first exhibition game, the quarterback won’t do the same this week. But, the rest of the Lions starters will get in some quality time in the contest.

“I know this, the starters will play,” Campbell said in his press conference. “I don’t see Goff playing … but I do see the starters playing and we’ll see where it goes. They need to be prepared for a half, I told them. I know their guys are playing about a half — I talked to coach [Mike] Tomlin. So this will be really good for us. This will be really good.

“I have a lot of respect for coach Tomlin and what they do and what they’ve done for years — one of the most consistent, winning teams in this league for a number of years, certainly since he’s been there. So we know what they’re about. They’re a tough group. So this will be a great test for us.”

I notice the Steelers/Lions is the very last pre-season game. 4:30 Sunday. I would think the NFL Network would carry it but alas they are showing a repeat of another game in that time slot.

I think Brice said Tomlin usually lets him know Thursday who’s starting

Apparently he doesn’t tell him about Larry’s ankle

    Or something like that

Thank you!!!! Found it. I just assumed that pre-season games would only be on the NFL Network.

    Very sweet!!

Yeah I will be curious to see if Tomlin will announce the order of the Starting QBs on Thursday.

He started Haskins the last game of last year and that Dud of a game kept Mason firmly in the #2 seat for the rest of the year. Does Kenny get the start on Sunday with the starting job on the line?

Also, will there be a Derek Watt sighting? Or can he make this Club from the Tub?

In the past seasons, someone posted a link of tv coverage across the country in the different time slots. Not sure this is still something to look fwd to this season and if its done for preseason games?

I believe this game is on everywhere. I think because it's either the last , or next 2 the last Preseason game played this year.

I am disappointed that Picket is not starting against Detroit.
    upload_2022-8-26_11-21-9.png

If the rumors are true that both Pittsburgh and Detroit will be playing their 1st team units, it would have been nice to see what Kenny could do against a starting NFL defense.

I agree, would have like to see Pickett start, but again the order of QB was already pretty much known before camp.
The only thing that changed is the length of Trubisky leash. I give it 2 to 5 games and then its Kenny's time.

    That’s not how it works

With only 3 preseason games there isn’t a blow off game

This game is needed to get the starters in sync for game 1

You don’t juggle at this point

Yep. Why not....if He's our future...let's get the future started now.
You know Trubisky is no more the future than Mason is....so let's get the future started....Now.

    Play to win

    Play to win game 1

If Mitch is the best option to win day 1 he starts

If Kenny is the best option to win day 1 he should start

    Game 2 is another discussion

It appears the powers to be nbelieve Mitch is the best option to win the first game

I go with their wisdom they have seen more than I have ten fold in

Agreed, other than to watch Mitch hand the ball off to Najee in a live game environment what else is there to learn? They have already seen Mitch play with the rest of the starters against an NFL starting Defenses. Let Kenny play with the #1s against the #1s to find out if he is truly ready to start week 1.

This start against Detroit should be more about Kenny proving he can play good enough to be the starter, rather than seeing if Mitch can play bad enough to lose his job.

Like I said after last week's game, I do not see a reason why Mitch should even play in this game. I would have been happy to see Kenny play the 1st half, with Mason playing the 2nd half.

Right now, the Steelers should be 100% done in evaluating Mitch's QB capabilities.

It would be an interesting decision if Kenny has a near perfect game and Mitch looks so-so. If that happens, he just might let Kenny start game 1.

Just unbelievable things are going so well for a QB nobody snatched for 19 picks. Saw a video where Kurt Warner was examining Kenny`s play so far and he was impressed with his ability to read the defense and make quick decisions. What we have seen of him is high football IQ, not dumb luck.

Mitch is not the long term future, but I think he’s the best option until the O line resembles anything more than a sieve. Mitch can run, and he can create time for himself to find targets. I definitely don’t want a running QB as our long term starter, but for right now I think that extra dimension of a pretty athletic scrambling QB gives us a puncher’s chance to put points on the board when the O line breaks down. Run Mitch Run

I’m sure part of what I’m feeling is a need to keep Pickett from getting repeatedly thrashed as a rookie.
