Does not actually add up when you look at the stats.

Mason leads in Total Yards, Yards per Attempt, and Yards per Catch.

And I have seen the Calvin Austin highlights of all those deep bombs he has been catching, and I think the throwing QB has always been Mason.

Oh ok. Looked like he just wasnt good enough. He made a few teams but never had an impact or made an imprint on either of them. Its typically not difficult to do well against 2nd and 3rd string talent. of course Tomlin gets blame for everything, but I guess five other coaches misused him too.

In this case I'm not blaming Tomlin as much as I am saying he flat out misused the guy. He wasn't featured as a kick returner that preseason so to put him on the 53 and then have him try to run kick offs back was not a wise use. He wasn't anything spectacular but he was a North\South power runner that was tough to bring down. He showed with the first team, the second and the third and ran hard in those preseason games where other drafted RB's struggled he produced. We have seen high quality players struggle to gain a yard when the defense knows what was coming and that hasn't just been the Steelers that is an NFL thing. That being said there is a pattern of questionable usage on this team going back to Tomlin's first years with the team. We saw it with Logan. BA ran three fake end around halfback dives where they faked it to Logan and gave it to Mendenhall for minimal gain because the Lions didn't buy that it was an end around. The only reason to run it three times in a game is so on the 4th attempt Logan gets it and goes for a big gain since they ignored him the three previous. In all likelihood Watson would have fizzled out that season anyway and been a footnote in Steelers history or maybe he becomes the next Willie Parker. All I know is that if you earn a spot on the roster and they give you no opportunity to succeed that is not using talent the right way.

Ben's intended air yards per pass attempt:
    - 2018 (Fichtner) - 7.8 (675 pass attempts)
    - 2019 (Fichtner) - 9.3 (62 pass attempts) **Ben Injured** [Rudolph 8.1 (283 pass attempts), Hodges 7.3 (160 pass attempts)
    - 2020 (Fichtner) - 6.9 (608 pass attempts)
    - 2021 (Canada) - 6.7 (605 pass attempts)

2020 and 2021 are statically identical. It's clear the decline happened more because of Ben's injury/age and the "system" that they use wasn't really Canada.

    For reference here some comparable:

    Trubisky:
    2018 - 8.8
    2019 - 8.0
    2020 - 7.8
    2021 - NA

    Brady:
    2018 - 7.9
    2019 - 7.6
    2020 - 9.1
    2021 - 8.1

    Rodgers:
    2018 - 8.8
    2019 - 8.8
    2020 - 7.9
    2021 - 7.7

    Herbert:
    2020 - 7.4
    2021 - 7.6

    Stafford:
    2018 - 6.9
    2019 - 10.6
    2020 - 8.7
    2021 - 8.5

    Mahomes:
    2018 - 9.1
    2019 - 8.8
    2020 - 8.4
    2021 - 7.3

    Carr:
    2018 - 6.8
    2019 - 6.6
    2020 - 8.1
    2021 - 8.1

    Burrow:
    2020 - 8.5
    2021 - 8.1

    Allen:
    2018 - 11.0
    2019 - 9.3
    2020 - 8.5
    2021 - 8.2

    Cousins:
    2018 - 7.2
    2019 - 7.6
    2020 - 8.0
    2021 - 8.2

It's a shame we don't have Ben's stats in other years, since I'm sure for most of the time he was one of the best for air yards in his prime...He had several years with over 8.0 YPA in his career (6 times in fact) and only the last 2 years, he was under 7 uatds per pass attempts(6.3 in 2020 and 6.2 in 2021) when his arm and mobility was done

I didn't read through all four pages of this post but I would expect Mason to be better - at least a little - since he is the most familiar with the offensive system. Looking forward to Saturday night and, hopefully, getting a chance to see them all play.
