I was looking at Plaxico Burress's Wiki page and ran across this list of fines he received on October 24th. Did this happen in Pittsburgh? There is no year mentioned.

This was not the first time that Burress had been temporarily suspended by an NFL team—in May 2004, he was suspended by the Pittsburgh Steelers for failing to show up for a Monday team practice. On October 24 he was issued four fines totaling $60,000 for the following reasons:

      • $20,000 for post-game comments regarding officiating—specifically, inappropriate comments on officiating.
      • $20,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct—specifically, verbal abuse of the head linesman.
      • $5,000 for throwing the ball in the stands.
      • $15,000 for slapping a referee in the face.

I don't remember this at all, and I can't find any details for exactly when it happened. Anyone have a video of this or an article to share? I am sure it would have been played all over in the Pittsburgh Media of Burress slapping a referee in the face.

    He was a giant then.
His boneheaded play as a steeler was spiking a live ball which was recovered by the defense

Someone came to my house as the friend of a guest and brought a signed NFL football he won at a dinner

He proudly gave it to me and I appreciated the kind gesture

He was from Holland and didn’t know who Plaxico was

I don't remember any of these. I only remember the live ball spike after a first down catch. In his defense it was a rookie mistake since in college it was a dead ball once the receiver hit the ground. If you are strictly mentioning the mistakes he made as a Giant, don't forget to add tucking a concealed weapon in the elastic waist band of his Fruit of the Looms.

Not that it isn't a stupid thing to do, although not as stupid shooting yourself in the leg and getting real jail time because of it, let's remember the spiking of the ball happened rookie year in the first few games. He literally came from spending time in the college game where the clock stops on every 1st down attained, one foot down to establish a catch and play being over once you hit the ground. It's the stupid type of thing that only happens once and you go God how f-in stupid am I. Future Plax says here hold my beer.

His actions as a member of the giants had no bearing on the Steelers. I remember it happening and my reaction was exactly the same as it was towards the guy in the video. #dumbass

One would think if true it would have been bigger news and a bigger penalty than just verbally abusing a ref

Unless he called him a Jagoff

I have no memory of Burruss slapping a ref. that would have been sports talk show fodder for months here in W. Pa. I call bullsh!t.

I well remember the ball spike. I can't remember if it was the same play where The Jaw got in his face and said, "Stop spinning the damn ball!" I miss seeing Cowher's fire and passion.

I'd imagine slapping an official in the face would result In a hefty fine and suspension. BS

Good thing Steelers selected Burress with #8 pick in 2000 instead of Pennington. Nothing against Pennington... but Steelers probably wouldn't have drafted Ben in '04 if they had Pennington. I remember many Steelers fans cursing when Burress was taken in that draft.
