    Dear Ben,
You couldn't even do a QB sneak the last two years. That alone cost us 3 1st downs a game.

I remember that game against the Bengals on MNF, Ben was terrible and had a few turnovers, they lost to the Bengals third string QB that night .

The Steelers gave Ben 18 years, not many QBs get to start that long for the team that drafted them, it was time to move on Ben needs to get over it.

Quarterbacks can be big babies. That is why we've seen all the drama with Aaron Rodgers in the last couple of seasons. He needs to be told his team still loves him. I wouldn't be surprised if Roethlisberger had been told that he could retire on his own or the team would simply let him leave as a free agent. He can be upset about it all he wants, but it was absolutely the right call.

Sounded like an attempt at humor. Ben was ready to move on as well.

Why are people reacting like it is a fact that Ben said these things?
As the article mentions, Dulac speculated during a talk show.
He could be full of :bscow:
There will be plenty of time to rip on Ben, if there is actual evidence to back up Dulac's claims.
But it would be a shame to build up hate at Ben for something he didn't do.

Correction: He said "don't want me back" and it's fair to see why.

What could be more damning, is if this offense lights it up without him, even if they don't go deep into the playoffs.

It's absolutely clear that he was out there on 2 bad knees and did not want to throw anything middle of the field medium. Also, his calling card was shaking off tacklers and making the big throw. That was not happening the last 2-3 years.

I'm sure it's hard to admit to yourself that you just don't have it anymore. The mind and spirit are still willing, but the body betrays you. Some of these guys have such a competitive streak, they can't admit it's over. And being told it's over feels like disrespect.

But he has to know deep down it was time to walk away.

Almost all great players think they have that last good run left in them..... Father time is undefeated and was taking his shots at will on Ben..... The refs (Colbert and Tomlin) had to step in and stop the fight

He's more than welcome to play for vet minimum or sign with another team. It's as simple as that

    Definitely not leadership or coaching

This isn't the same supporting cast as last season. Harris, Freiermuth, and Moore are going into their second seasons, when players often have the biggest jump in their level of play. They upgraded the offensive line, getting a competent center and an outstanding guard.

That said, I do expect them to get better play out of the quarterback position. At the very least, they won't face the limitations they had with Roethlisberger's lack of mobility and discomfort taking snaps from under center. Trubisky and Pickett are both mobile quarterbacks. Rudolph really isn't, but at least he can handle taking snaps from under center.

Exactly. It really doesn’t matter what Ben wanted. Colbert and Tomlin have to do what is best for the team. Ben returning for another year would only hurt the Steelers.

They gave him one last hurrah to prove he still had it and he clearly didn’t. No way they were going to give him another season. It was very painful to watch Ben play last year. Athletes usually are the last to know they should pack it in.

What Ben said in response to being asked if he wanted to come back another year (ala Brady):
"First off, my coach and GM don’t want me back.
Second off, I’m pretty content with where I’m at. Being a bus driver, making lunches in the morning, that's a pretty good job.

So in other words, the team wasn't begging him for another shot, and he isn't interested in coming back anyways.
    That seems non-controversial.

Dulac speculated about bad blood with the organization, that Ben was forced into retirement when he really wanted to play another year, etc. And the last two pages are people ripping on Ben like he actually said what Dulac was speculating.

What Ben actually said does not match what Dulac is speculating.
Can't leave off that second point that Ben said.

Now Florio has a tweet out the Steelers tricked Ben into signing his lowered contract last year. Tricked? Both Rooney and Colbert publicly stated they welcomed Ben back, but with the lowered Cap and they being over he would have to rake a cut. 5 million I recall. Ben later said he took less so they could sign other guys..no Ben you took less or you would have to walk.

No trick Florio, just more imagination from your empty brain.
