Watching the Combine and Conner Heyward...If we would take him in say the 7th round and cut Watt...What would the cap implications be?

He's athletic, moves around like a hybrid but, would we not even use him like Watt?

The 49ers use a FB, I think their FB is the highest paid in the NFL.

I can see the value of a fb if you use him right, problem is we don't use him enough or even correctly to justify that salary.

Derek led the team in special teams tackles, that's his main role.

This is why I think Canada's offense will use a FB next year. Without Ben more plays under center with a FB.

I noticed he is listed as a TE. Is he too small to be a TE? Looks like most TEs are around 6'5"

With Ebron out the door they definitely need another TE, but does Heyward's 6'0" frame put him on the outside looking in for TEs?

I would be all for using a late round pick on Heyward. The kid is a football player. Play him at running back and he can be the next Fuamatu Mafala.

I am only halfway joking. I wouldn't mind having a bruiser dot the I as a backup to Najee.

I’ll admit that I have not watched film on him, I’ve just seen a few games on live TV. That said, players like him that don’t really fit the mold of a particular position in the NFL, but are great football players often carve out a niche as special teams leaders. A player like that who can be a special teams ace/captain is worth a late round pick even if his use on offense or defense could be somewhat limited.

He's 5'11" weighs 233 and is strong as a bull. He exploded into the blocking sled last night and drove it back much further than a lot of the TE's that were bigger than he is. Fullback is his natural position and he has good hands.

    A poor man's Derek Watt?

Pickup Heyward, cut Watt, and save 4 million?

Too bad we're already paying $3mm a year to another fullback sibling we never use
