    I do

In exchange for that they signed a contract and may have gotten a bonus

    They signed the contract

    The team signed the contract

The team is following the contract

The player should do the same

Until recently I thought only the signing Bonus was guaranteed, and the Salary and Roster Bonuses were not.

But, now NFL players are getting their Salaries also guaranteed. Look at TJ Watt's contract. No Roster bonuses, and Huge yearly Salaries that are guaranteed. I don't know if this is the first time the Steelers have given out a new Huge contract that did not include Roster Bonuses?

Seems to me those big roster bonuses that were in Ben's contract are disappearing as more players want the guaranteed money, and more teams are trying not to payout the huge Signing Bonuses. Granted the signing bonuses will always be present as you get to spread that over the life of the contract.

It's definitely a shift and will come under a lit of scrutiny if players suffer long-term injury or just tank in performance. The cat is out of the bag and will be difficult to get back in, the market will set value, but I wonder if the long-term affects will be a chosen few getting the bulk of that guaranteed money. The cap grows every year, but some of the position salaries with guaranteed money are outpacing that growth.

I heard we offered him a great contract but when he dropped the pen we lowered the offer. He got mad and left.

Yes, you ever heard of the Draft??.. its going to be a young offense might as well start building around the young QB so they can grow together..... im not interisted in paying a average WR big $$ ... let him kick rpcks

They don't have to pay Diontae this year, he's in the last year of his deal and he's cheap, trading Diontae and drafting two receivers they would still lack good WR depth.

For me, it's truly looking at the past 30 years of data. The Steelers have always seemed to find a way to draft quality WR's in Day 2-Day 3 of the draft. I'm not going to argue the market value. If a team is willing to pay Johnson 80m/4 years, then that's his worth and I'd be happy for him. But at the same time, I just don't see how you can pay him more than a guy like Fitzpatrick. Fitz could potentially set the S market, and only get paid 76m/4 years. I think Fitz will be looking at something like $18.5m/year give/take. WR's are literally trees in a forest, and we've done a great job at drafting quality WR's over the course of the past 3 decades. It's not a matter of being cheap; it's a matter of spending to the cap wisely. I value Fitzpatrick more than Johnson. Johnson is far more easily replaceable than Fitzpatrick is. Perhaps you can pay both of them, but you also have to pay 51/52 other guys including Watt and so on.

In my view the drafting of Pickett makes resigning DJ more important than it would have been if we had drafted Willis, or really any of the other QBs or even stayed with what we have. Pickett throws on schedule and with anticipation and accuracy. That’s a strength of his compared to the rest of the class and Trubisky. DJ is a precise route runner who will be where he’s supposed to be, when he’s supposed to be there. Seems like a solid fit to me. They may be able to make each other better.

The problem is many of his drops came late in the season when the weather changed and the grind of the NFL season wore on. He hardly dropped anything during the first half of the season. Have to be able to catch the ball consistently when it matters most.

Then instead of a pay increase, we should cut his salary for being an all pro WR for only half of the season
