I think Malik Willis and Kenny pickett will be gone by 20. There are to many teams in front of us that need a QB.

Fitzpatrick has a hip injury that I don't believe he will recover from.
Last I saw, he was still hobbling around.

I could see this team getting to 4 QB's with a Zappe signing.
He's currently rated as an undrafted priority signing.
He's not a 'pretty' QB by any means of imagination, but he gets the ball to the receivers.
I figure he might be a Taylor Heinicke or less.

There are 3 OT's in the top 10 big boards.
There are also 3 CB's in the top 20.

I like LB's Nakobe Dean and Devin Lloyd.
Are they worthy of the 20th pick?
Dean is a run stopper (Steelers were dead last against the run).
Lloyd is a more NFL ready 3-4 ILB.

There are a lot of WR's, you could probably get a good one later.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Steelers drop back a few spots, grab a LB'r, grab up a Ridder or Howell and snag a Skyy Moore or other WR or maybe a CB.
But I also would not be surprised if they stand pat.
I can't really see them trading up but hey, they are not afraid of doing so if they feel it is necessary.
In short, I have no idea. :)

If the over all thought is to wait until next year for a QB, as many of us think, I have to imagine the team is weighing whether any of these "can't miss" QBs will still be there if the Steelers were to pick in about the same spot. I simply can't see them bombing this season so my thought is they will pick somewhere in the area of 15-20. I don't know enough about next year's class. I would think if you see the Steelers trade back and loading up on picks, they're waiting until next year. My gut tells me they go with a QB this year. Right, wrong or indifferent.

I'd take Lawrence, Jones, Fields and Lance over any of this years QBs.

I think people saw for a while that this year's class wouldn't be as strong as last year's. The biggest difference is that everybody knew Lawrence was going to be the top guy for a long time. This year's class has no one even close to that level.

I still think Lance might be fool's gold. I could be wrong, but I see him as being as risky as many of the top guys in this year's class.

Honestly, I'd take Pickett over Jones. I think both are guys who belong near the end of the first round. Neither has elite arm talent, but they certainly have plenty to succeed in the NFL. Jones probably processes what he sees better. He makes fewer mistakes. Pickett is a better athlete. Put that together and I think they are comparable.

I do not think the Steelers stay at 20. I think they attempt to move up the board.

This would be a terrible move, IMO. There's no QB worth moving up for... not to mention all of the lost draft picks. Steelers are fine at #20.... and need to pick DE, CB, WR or ILB.

I see the Steelers needs as (in no particular order) OT, QB, CB, DT, DE, WR.

    Looking at the 20th pick
OT would be easy to fill.
CB has some elite talent that might be there.
DT/DE - There are some very good players that should be available at #20
WR - There are a lot of good WR's in this draft.

    QB - The big Kohona.
There will be QB's on the board. The 2 that seem to get the most attention are Pickett and Willis. I figure they will be gone by 20.
    • Desmond Ridder is a guy to keep an eye on.
    • Sam Howell gets a bad mark because the team around him wasn't that good.
    • Carson Strong is getting a lotta love too.
Out of those 3, I think Ridder will make the decision very difficult for the Steelers.
Had they not lost Haskins to that tragic accident, I think they might easily think Haskins is at least better than these guys and does have some experience.
I think that while they can fill any of those positions (I certainly won't criticize if they do) easy at 20, they can also fill them later.
Ridder's arm is just a smidgeon off "elite" as he can make any throw, and he has some speed and agility.
I think Carson Strong might be the only other to give them pause but I would say less than Ridder.

The only issue I have is, Ridder is a guy that is a lot like Big Ben was. You really want to develop him a little more.
Ben benefitted from having a good defense and powerhouse running game. That isn't the case currently.

So, at 20, should things play out like above, the Steelers will have a tough decision.
Some of us obviously would pass, but they have done a lot of homework and whatever that board is marked... I am sure they will do.

    Picks
    1 (20)
    2 (52)
    3 (84)
    4 (138)
    6 (208)
    7 (225)
    7 (241)

I dont keep up with college ball or the players, but just going by what i have read here and seen on tv, if the steelers truely pick the BPA at #20 they wont pick a QB no matter which one is setting there.

I would say the signs are pointing towards them selecting a qb. Not necessarily in the first round. With that being said we are still reading the tea leaves so to speak. It would be foolish for them not to scout them just in case one happens to fall to them.

I would rather draft him in the 3rd or 4th versus spending a 1st round pick on a bust. Everyone knows this class sucks. WKU QB will probably be the best

I didn't mean Fitzpatrick would get all the snaps, I mean signing him along with having Mason, Trubisky would make it hard for a rookie QB to get meaningful snaps.

I guess I don't get it. You're signing him as a backup not as a starter. Trubisky is going to be the starter he gets the number one snaps. Fitz gets backup snaps.

Fitz isn't better than Mason, what's the point in signing him?

    Maybe.

But how many sure thing top 10 1st round QBs ended up dudds??

    Lots..

So really when it comes to QB it seems no one really has a clue.

For every Pstrick Mahomes there is a Josh Rosen.

This is my thoughts also. I don't think there's a prayer that Willis falls to 20 in a QB hungry league.

Everyone overdrafts QBs, which makes this poll more interesting.

I think any of the top 4/5 QB's dropping into the 20 spot will have the Steelers wringing hangs..
I do expect Willis and Pickett to be gone.

The only thing I fear is if the Steelers trade up.
I don't like that scenario as it costs picks.
I really want to see them use all 7 of those picks.

At 20, they could draft a terrific OT, DL, or ILB. I think that there are enough holes that it wouldn’t be a bad thing to trade down and fill them. The DL, especially, is becoming long of tooth.
Let other teams overdraft some of the QBs. I hope the Steelers don’t draft a DB. For some strange reason, they are awful at it. This draft is fairly deep in WR, by trading down they can fill that too. Live with Trubisky for a season or two and try to draft The Guy in 2023 or 2024.

It was a long time wandering in the desert between Bradshaw and Big Ben. I hope it isn’t that long this time.
