That’s great value if the $2.5m figure is correct. He must have had no market at all, but he is certainly worth that. Vet minimum is nearly $1m so when you take roster displacement in to account it’s basically $1.5m for the year.

Oh God no ! I'd rather we signed a hot dog vendor to play SS than him !!!

An average safety gets $5-6M a year, so I was expecting a number like you suggested, instead of what is being reported.
(Maybe his contract has incentives if he reaches certain milestones?)

Damn, at 2.5 mil they can still go get Honey Badger.

I like the signing, now if they draft a rookie SS they don't have to start him right away. Hopefully this ends all the Tyran Mathieu talk to the Steelers by the fans .

Absolutely, now if we can avoid temptation and not reach for a QB with our first pick, things will be looking better

Not happening. This lets us get a high potential safety who may not be ready to start in 2022 like Cross or Cook. I’m pretty sure that’s the longer range plan.

Takes the pressure off rookie SS. Edmunds is good enough if Trubisky/Rudolph can generate points.

That's a good value. If the line and ilb do their job Edmunds can do a decent job. Not saying he will ever be great, but at that price and better help in front this is a good signing.

I'd rather have old man Earl Thomas but Edmunds will do.

The longer Mathieu is out there the lower his cost will get. I’d absolutely still take him at a reasonable contract. They can still draft one if they want.

Clearly that didn’t work out for you.

Why would they go spend millions on Mathieu after re-signing Edmunds, just to put Edmunds on the bench, drafting a cheaper rookie is a better option at safety. This team isn't one player away from the Super Bowl, it's not like Mathieu is going to put them over the top.

It is an understatement to point out that I'm not a fan of Edmunds, but at that price, I think it was a good signing. Now if they can get someone to start ahead of him, even better.

Re-signing Edmunds takes the pressure off. If they have to start him, they can live with that. It actually strengthens their negotiating position with other free agents because they are no longer desperate. At $2.5 million, it is absolutely fine if Edmunds ends up in a dime/backup role.

Not much left in FA. If Edmunds is the S money we're spending, there is enough cap left to add another FA on the cheap. Sony Michel? Jerick McKinnon? Rasheem Green? Josh Rosen?

Edmunds = Chris Hope and Ryan Clark. Clark and Hope had Batman (Polamalu) to battle with. Edmunds has his Batman in Fitzpatrick. If the D line gets better and ILB gets better...things will work out.

    T. Edmunds wishes He was a pimple on C. Hope ,and R. Clark's A$$.
Neither of them had 2 come begging for a measly chump Change....because both of them were way better players.
Edmunds isn't even Robin...He more Lois Lane. LoL. :lolol::roflmao:
    I made myself laugh. ;)

Fair enough. Edmunds gets too much criticism here. If he wasn't drafted in the 1st round, nobody would complain.

We reached for him in the 2018 draft because we were desperate for a safety.

We signed him today so we won't be desperate and have to reach for a safety next week.

We're going to miss Kevin Colbert.

He had a pretty good year past year. Let's hope he improves some more.
