What he said. They haven't announced any cuts, but can start anytime until the Tuesday deadline. Some teams have already started.

ESPN is reporting that Keith Butler and Danny Smith are both being shown the door. Per Head Coach Tomlin - "It's obvious after Saturday's debacle, no one is safe, even the HC."

With most everyone playing poorly yesterday, the Steelers might have a hrd time choosing who to cut first..:hmm:

The Bears cut CB Tim Jennings, you know the Steelers like those midget CBs they drafted one in the second round Golson who probably won't play this season.

Just so we have an updated list of former Steelers that are now available. Tony Hills, Curtis Brown, Demarcus Van Dyke, and Fernando Velasco have all been cut by their respective teams so retreads anyone?

I remember this quote from an article I read somewhere.

When asked in the late 80's about preseason cuts, Chuck Noll said, "Cutting isn't a problem but stopping might be." Tomlin may be feeling that way about now.

I've been watching the Steelers religiously every year since 1977. I've never ever watched a more poorly lackluster defensive effort than last Sunday. You know how in all pro-bowl games ..defenses mail it in with little effort to prevent injury & allow offenses to do anything they want without resistance ..that's how Sunday felt. To let scrubs succeed at more than a 90% rate is unimaginable...

I have been watching a little longer, but I agree poor performance all around. I think The great Coach T needs to talk to this team quite a bit.

I too would be interested in Velasco, but I don't know who I would get rid of to make room.
And I've always kind of liked DVD, the guy has freakish speed. Too bad he just can't translate it to on the field play.

probably hubbard and finney. that would leave, (pouncey), beachum, foster, wallace, DD, gilbert, AV, legs, valasco, and maybe adams. legursky is coming off a knee injury last year. velasco played under munch, legs didn't.:cool:

I would take Velasco over Hubbard and/or Finney, unless Velasco has lost his edge over the past couple of years (I haven't been following his career since he last played here). We're a win-now team, and we need the guys who can help us now over very questionable development prospects like Hubbard and Finney.

Yes - though even with the guys we've got, it seems we have a lot of players who can run very fast, but not necessarily to the right place...

Should be an interesting couple of days. Personally I don't think any of our back up lineman have looked stellar. I think AV could be good in another year or so just because he needs time to learn the position. But anyone who can help now I would prefer over taking a flyer on a developmental lineman. I would keep AV for more than just his development. I would think he would be a great locker room influence.

I'm not sure they'll have any problems getting down to 75.... and honestly, shouldn't have any problems getting down under 53. Backup depth really seems to be lacking across the board. Heck, they might as well just go to 53 now.

I know it'll never happen, but that would be one hell of a wakeup call to everyone coasting by.
