Imma gonna still clamor for Mathieu but thanks for looking out!

I mean it’s not like they have never signed someone 30 years old before, amiright???

He’s an option until he’s not.

Can accept the Bell pick but what a whiff not taking him over Jarvis.

would love him for a short term fix. OBV we have to draft better in the secondary and SOON. maybe FLORES can coach them up better - who knows - but our S and CB drafting has sucked.

Instead they took Jarvis makes no sense, no team was going to draft Mathieu in the first round, he also had character issues coming out of college that could be why the Steelers had no interest.

Im sure it was the character issues but in hindsight, should have listened to Taylor and Clark.

I’m not sure if those character issues have ever surfaced in the pros.

He has gotten his life together in the pros, but getting kicked off of his college team the Steelers weren't going to draft him early on.

At the very least, he has learned to keep people from finding out if he does something he shouldn't. I'm always wary of redemption stories, though I went to college with one. The guy was kicked out of the dorms and arrested at least twice after that in college. Two of those were due to acts of violence. He was considered a model citizen as a pro. Did he really change or did he just learn to cover his tracks better?

By all accounts I've read, Mathieu has been more than just a "kept his nose clean" guy in the NFL. He's been widely seen as not only a team leader on the field and in the locker room, but off the field, as well.

Hey, I'm with Scribe in that I'm a VERY tough sell when it comes to a person "changing one's stripes". It's why I didn't want to invest in Watson, despite his undeniable on field talents - I'm just not convinced that what seems to me to be a sexual ADDICTION with him (filed charges from twenty-some different women is a TON, given that that likely means that who knows how many others are out there who had incidents with him and chose to keep silent), and that kind of addiction is rarely one people who have it can just "turn off" at a moment's notice. So I won't be a bit surprised even after all of these charges are finally settled if he ends up with new incidents in the future.

So yeah, I'm not easy to convince. But dang, Mathieu seems to be the rare one (rare in my experience, anyway) who has managed to do it, and not just by "sitting quietly in the back", either. He seems to have done a complete 180 into becoming a leader of quality choices and actions. Hey, I commend and salute him on that. And I genuinely hope it continues.

I’d say yes, but not at the cost of signing Minka to a long term deal

I think they can achieve both. If Honey Badger was a hot commodity, he'd already be signed.

For some it really is about environment. Not making excuses and have no idea who he hung with in the past and who he is hanging g with now. But many who came from a troubled environment continue to hang with that crowd, add money and it escalates badly. Going to the right team, listening to and making correct choices can profoundly affect the maturing process.

we are down around 13.452 mil. without the avery signing. we carry 2-3 into the season for injury, have to sign the draft picks and practice squad out of that too. not a ton of money left. they will have to sign minkah which should lower his cap number and if they do anything with johnson.
