    Side note:

Me, @SteelerGlenn@SteelerGlenn, @S.T.D@S.T.D, @jeh1856@jeh1856 and others who do not believe Cincy will return are not saying Joe Burrow is not the real deal; not all of us anyways. He oh most certainly is; even proving me wrong in the process along with many others. All the likes of us are stating is that the road back to the Super Bowl is going to be more tougher than others realize due in part to their performance in 2021. The Conference alone is a tough endeavor but an AFC North with the likes of both Baltimore and Pittsburgh that very few count out?! Not the "Cake Walk" some "experts" make it out to be.

    Again everyone... context matters.

Only speaking for myself, I don't expect him to be a fluke, but it is premature to rule that out with certainty.

Burrow has only played 2 seasons.
(Trubisky had his all-pro season his second year.)
Jarred Goff's stats looked great for his first three years... and then he declined.

Burrow had 32 sacks in 10 games his rookie season, and 51 sacks last season.
(And that number could have been higher if Watt wasn't out for the Sept. 26 game.)
The Bengals are aiming to improve his protection, but they still need to show it, against a tougher schedule than last year.

I think Burrow is great, and said so when He came out. People can go back ,and look, but SB repeat is very difficult. Do I believe Cincinnati will Be good . Yes....at least while Burrow is on His rookie contract.

Cincy won't go to the SB because it is going to be a blood bath in all the AFC next season. Teams will be beat to a pulp up and down in this conference. Whoever comes out healthy and with a solid defense will win the Lombardi. NFC will be a lot weaker for the next 2 seasons or more. JMHO.

Also, I don't see the Bengals having extremely healthy back to back seasons. That rarely happens. Last year was an exception for them as they have a lengthy history of being very injury prone.

    Yep.

Did not factor in health for that to me is a rule of thumb; war of attrition. As @MeanJoeBlue@MeanJoeBlue pointed out, 83 total sacks in the span of two seasons, a season in which you return from a severe knee injury no less, is no laughing matter. Time will tell if the offseason additions made by Cincy will be enough to assist them this upcoming season; health permitting of course.

If the Steelers lose one more game, they miss the playoffs entirely. They didn't. Neither did the Bengals. If you need to rewrite history to make your argument, your argument isn't very good.

I don't expect them to get back to the Super Bowl, either, but these people claiming they were all smoke and mirrors simply didn't watch them enough last season or they don't understand what they watched.

Good point. This was actually why I was predicting the Bengals to do well this past season - they’ve been unlucky with injuries most years which has concealed the strength of their roster.

I think on paper right now they’re the strongest team in the AFCN, but that’s only paper…

There are many reasons. Look at what Tomlin actually said. They would like to draft a quarterback, but they are going to wait and see how things go. That leaves the door open for drafting someone at another position if there isn't a quarterback they want available at 20. Trubisky helps them do that because they don't have to panic and reach for a guy they don't want at that spot. That's part of the value of a bridge quarterback. Also, if they do draft one, they don't have to rush him into the lineup. That would be particularly important if they somehow got Willis, who is very raw. Signing Trubisky is also an admission that they have no faith in Rudolph or Haskins.

They got a viable option to start for a relatively-cheap contract and didn't have to give up any draft picks. It made sense then and will still make sense even if they do draft a quarterback early.

I had the same thought about you, fanboy, but tell me what was unreasonable about my post? You are trying to re-write history because that is the only way your point would hold up. That is poor rhetoric. You are joining in with the crowd that can't accept that the Bengals were that good last year, an opinion that would make sense if they hadn't beaten the Chiefs twice, including the AFC Championship game.

You’re about as bad as the football analyst guy. Again all I’m saying is that the Bengals weren’t a powerhouse. They were beatable. Yes they represented the AFC in the Super Bowl, but they weren’t close to the best team in the AFC throughout the season.

Bengals were beatable last year? Someone tell Mike Tomlin that.

I don't really see how Bengals drop off this upcoming year...they are pretty much bringing everyone back, with improvements through FA and draft.

I see I struck a nerve, so you think you can score points by comparing me to the college kid who posts foolishness.

By your logic, we should downplay the 2005 Steelers. They were very beatable all season, so I guess we shouldn't consider them a powerhouse despite those Super Bowl rings they won.

I would have just saved the money and rolled with Rudolph or Haskins for a year. But, I guess that is just me.

Please don't compare me to FootballPlagiarist, fanboy. I get that you don't like being reminded that some of us don't see everything through Black-and-Gold colored glasses, but that's a bit much. :)

Thier record will depend greatly on if Burrow and Chase can stay healthy. 51 sacks last season is a lot. There are investing in veteran OL to help protect Burrow but it will still come down to the health of those two.

Despite the beat down they laid on the Steelers there were several games where it came down to late game heroics to win the game. If I remember correctly their game vs the Vikings was one where it was very little time left and a whole field to go and somehow they did it. So a case can be made if not for Burrow and Chase they may have missed the playoffs completely.

I hope Willis and Pickett go in the top 10. Steelers need help on D-line, ILB and SS much more than a project QB who likely will end up being a bust. Of course could throw a major curve ball and draft Ridder or Howell in the 2nd round.

    Well, you said…

I think there’s some substance to the mirage. And narrowly winning the division speaks more to the level of competition in the AFC North.

The Bengals were good enough to beat the Chiefs twice.
They were also bad enough to be swept by the Browns, and lose to the (6-11) Bears and the (4-13) Jets.

The next time someone claims that "playing down" to your opponents is unique to the Steelers and doesn't happen to good teams, mention the 2021 Bengals.

Money that could have been spent on another one of our holes in the team...if Your just going 2 draft a Qb this year anyway. So ...I agree with You
