I heard today that they are not looking for a 1st for Him, and that Seattle has shown some interest .
How true this is remains 2 be seen.

I just wish someone from the Steelers would come out and squash this rumor.

Like Tomlin did when they were trying to start a rumor that he was going to coach a college team.

She covers the Browns for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. She's actually very good, but she's way off base on this one.

She is good, and plugged into the Browns. I really hope she’s way off.

If he’s traded, it would have to be a deal where Cleveland agrees to eat some of his salary.

Could be they don't want 2 squash the rumor mill right now, as it helps throw up more concealment of what They really want 2 do.
Of course I don't know this 2 be true...just throwing it out there.

Steelers are set at QB for '22. If Mayfield or Willis is added, it will be the dumbest move since passing on Marino and letting Woodson go.

sign him to a haskins deal. baker screwed up a lot but he could put points on the board. with our defense we could be quite good. i wouldn't want to give up a ton for him or pay a bunch but if a decent deal could be made heck yes.

Not likely with what they're paying Watson (although it's been done by teams before). No, I think they'll end up trading him, even if they have to take a low ball offer, rather than just releasing him and getting nothing.

The answer to that is simple. The Texans didn't want Mayfield.

But my thought is he isn’t worth a first round draft pick as a trade? And if I’m another team, and say I offer a third round pick, I’m not giving a guy I got for a third an $18MM salary? And his contract currently guarantees the 18. I don’t see any team trading for him. Cleveland is screwed.

Your avatar makes me cringe. Bring back the big-eyed cat! Steelers were 11-0 and you switched avatars...and it's been all down hill since. Not that I'm superstitious.

Just because she is plugged into the Browns doesn't mean she has a clue about what the Steelers want. My guess is she got that tidbit from Mayfield's agent.

I certainly don't see the Steelers taking on that sort of contract at this point.

Even aside from the contract, I’m not sure they are looking for the circus that comes with it

Woodson was stubborn, they wanted him to move to safety he refused, he went to the 49ers and struggled at CB eventually moving to safety.

Not if that new team wants him as a starter. That annual amount for your starting quarterback is a bargain in today's league. So if there's a team out there who thinks he's better than any quarterback they currently have, or can get, then paying him $18 million to start for them this year, and be better than who they'd otherwise play, is a no brainer for them. And it won't have anything to do with what they traded to get him, either.

So unless the Clowns are just stupid (and that's not a stretch, because they have been quite often for decades now), then they're not going to just outright release him.

    @FreeBaker

Funny stuff from Skip and Shannon about Mayfield's future with Pittsburgh.

The Steelers are now needing to sign 2 QBs before camp; if Mayfield gets cut why not offer Baker the league minimum to bring him in for 1 year?
Browns are going to pay him his $18 million - what ever his new team pays. The Steelers get their 3rd QB for $1 million, and the Browns have to pay him the remaining $17 million to watch him play in a Steeler uniform. I am not sure how a multi year contract effects the $18 million.

Also, if they do trade Baker to another team; I would be curious to see if it the trade comes with something like Brett Farve had in his trade agreement, so his new team just couldn't immediately trade him to the Steelers.

(Oops this was from 2021 when Baker beat the Steelers in the Playoffs)

That is only if there is "offset language" in the salary contract.
I don't believe that is true for 5th year options. (Not sure, but it seems very unlikely.)
No offset means less chance that the Browns will simply cut Baker.
