Sooo like Edmunds? Who started from day one and was hated since round 1 by most fans?

    Honey Badger 5'9" 195lbs
He was 186 at the combine in 2013

    Polamalu 5'10" 207lbs

    While I respect everyone's opinion
The idea of saying things like

I don't want Polamalu because I like bigger strong safties is crazy to me... and I always gravitate towards the big guys.. but when you can play you can play

    Or things like

We already have Fitz no need to bring in Troy Polamalu or we have Troy...Ed Reed is not a good fit.....I honestly can't fathom ever saying we don't need the best players in the game

You want to say afford...I get that.. but not a fit? Crazy to me.

    Honey Badger
    120 starts
    26 INT
    3 TD
    76 pass defensed
    4 forced fumbles
    6 fumble recovered
    10 SACKS
    610 tackles

    Troy
    142 starts
    32 INT
    3 TD
    107 Pass defensed
    14 Forced Fumbles
    7 Fumbles Recovered
    2TD
    12 SACKS
    783 tackles

A strong safety should be over 200 lbs so they can stop the run. Just like Troy Polamalu 5'10" 207lbs

Yeah, having 2 great playmakers in the secondary is not something I would ever shy away from.

Mathieu not being signed anywhere yet indicates to me he is looking for a huge payday. The longer he sits out there, the more that should come down.

Yep. Probably wants major up front money as well. Teams will possibly wait till after the draft and see where they stand. I wonder what he is asking for? A 3 year deal I suppose.

Dallas, the Faders and Colts are interested and he could land back in KC

His physical stature does matter, sure. But safety is one of the positions where a completely unmeasurable quality matters to a great extent. Instincts. And you're going to be very hard pressed to find a safety with better ones than his.

That was part of the problem. Edmunds wasn't really a plug-and-play safety on merit. He was forced into action early because he was the best of a bad group of options. He clearly wasn't ready. It took him a while just to get to the point of being competent. I don't think he will ever be good.

The Steelers for the most part, let their players explore the FA market. If the player get's an offer
that the STEELERS feel is right and want to keep the player, They may try to negotiate with that player?
May I remind the fan base, unless you are a franchise QB or a Superstar, You may get a (third contract with
the Steelers) most players do not get the third contract. Cam Heyward should be interesting negotiations.

I thought he made 13 million last season, he's definitely not worth that much now.

The problem is, the Steelers offense is not the Chiefs offense.

I don't think he's that same type of player anymore, the Chiefs made no attempt to keep him, and went and signed another safety for big money.

30-year old Safeties are not unusual in this league, KC went with youth anyway.
I don't think I saw any drop off on Mathieu but I do think he under performed his contract value and therefore the Chiefs moved on.
If he's holding out for that last big contract, let someone else pay it.

They didn't give Reid "big money" and they didn't keep him because he's worth more than Reid and they can't afford that.

I agree with no big-money contract, but if someone’s going to give him something like a 2 year/$18 million kind of deal, I’d love for it to be us. Right now his market is pretty uncertain and he may have to settle for something like that.

    out with incredible instincts.

Hadn't gotten around to Cine yet. Looks like a good player. Plug and play? Idk. But yeah, he looks like he could be a very good player for us if we snag him in round 2.

Just like they shipped out Tyreek Hill bc they couldn't afford the asking price on his next contract. Its hard to keep a core of good players on a team where you're paying your QB more than 40 million a season.

We've reached the point where having a franchise QB prevents you from winning SBs. QBs on rookie deals and journeymen QBs win championships.

Potentially. There still are big name guys winning and competing for SB's. Stafford, Brady, etc. But yeah, it definitely makes it a lot harder to keep a quality team around them. Makes you very draft depended to stay super relevant.

Brady is an exception in part because he doesn’t maximize his earning potential because he wants to win at all cost. His cap hits for Tampa have been minuscule compared to other top QBs. Must be nice to be married to a rich supermodel.
