Great talk about Trubisky! That’s who we’re talking about, right?

I like the signing as a bridge. We didn’t panic and overpay, both in terms of draft compensation and cap dollars, to fill the immediate QB need for 2022. It’s not impossible to win a championship with a second or third tier QB when the rest of the team is very good. We’re not there yet, but we should be materially better on the O line and on defense (if healthy).

Having a true franchise QB guarantees nothing, especially when that guy has a huge contract that eats up a significant share of the team’s cap space. How many Super Bowls has Russell Wilson made it to since he signed his 2nd contract? When is the last time Rodgers made it to a Super Bowl? I’m glad we didn’t go down the road of strapping the team with a high-cost established QB. Of the guys who remained, I liked Trubisky’s fit and upside in an RPO heavy offense, so I’m happy that he’s the guy we got. He’s probably going to need to scramble quite a bit for us to be a contender, but he’s very capable of doing that successfully.

    No.

Some people are imagining others are, and arguing against this odd straw man argument that Trubisky is the second coming.

Others are saying that it's a decent signing to hold the fort given the current circumstances until a better option comes along in the draft, probably next year.

I think all the arguments in this thread were made around page 2 and after that it's just been going over the same ground...

I mean listen is the guy possibly better than Rudolph? I suppose.

But to think this makes us any type of contender in an AFC with some of the best young QBs in the game……cmon.

Watch that Buffalo KC playoff game and talk to me.

Nothing has changed there is no bridge to anything we still have no QB unless we draft one in Rd 1 and they develop in a couple years or we actually sign someone in free agency.

Great. So if they don't draft a quarterback, take the season off as a fan. The rest of us will actually watch the games.

what if trubisky plays well and we have drafted a round 1 qb? or we draft a rd 1 qb and trubisky feels snubbed because of it. wasted years of these other players we have picked up. remember many are on two year contracts.

I look at '22 as a bridge season. If Trubisky and offense prosper and Steelers go to playoffs as a wildcard or win the division over the Bengals.... the Steelers have found their long term QB and all is well. If Trubisky and offense tanks, Steelers stink it up and end up 3rd or 4th in the North.... then draft a QB in '23. It's a win/win since Trubisky's contract doesn't consume much of the salary cap.

If he was a guaranteed starting All-Pro, he'd be getting $40M / year.
If he was a guaranteed starter, he'd be getting $25-30M / year.

    He is being paid $7M.
Even if he somehow becomes the next coming of BB, for the next 2 years the incentives get him to $10-12M (something like that).
That is cheap enough to take a lottery ticket shot, in the hopes that he does play well in the right system.
The Steelers have 3 QBs, and are not putting all their eggs in one basket.

Not that it doesn't matter, of course, but I care less about the money in his deal. To me the beauty of the deal lies in its length - 2 years. That gives us everything we need at this exact moment in time.

If he shows this year that he's got the ability to win a Lombardi if the Steelers keep building a good team around him, then they have the opportunity next offseason to sign him to a long term deal WITH NO OTHER TEAM ABLE TO COMPETE WITH THEM IN DOING SO, because he'll still be under contract for another year.

If he shows that he likely doesn't have that ability, they can re-evaluate the position in an offseason that most likely will have better options than this one has had, in terms of higher quality players with much longer careers in front of them, and make a move to get the one they like most. Granted, there WILL be competition in landing such a guy, but at least they'll have a good chance to do so, since they'll have very little invested in the position at that point, both in terms of money and contract lengths.

It was a very good move given the largely poor options available this offseason.

Thing is what options are you getting if you're outside the top 5? Not one of the top tier guys most likely unless you trade up.

That bears defense was far from crappy. The offense wasn't the worst either. Allen robinson, cohen, and Jordan Howard wasn't bad.

That's over the course of 4 games. Not ONE. Tannehill in ONE game threw 4 picks and literally the team was driving on the last drive and he threw the pick that gave cincy the field goal to win after his defense completely shutdown the bengals offense. And of the 5 fumbles he's only lost 2. A fumble you recover is not a turnover so your stat is incorrect.

What qb are they drafting though. While I think they're the 4th best team in the division they aren't completely horrible. They're likely going to finish 9-8. That's probably getting you in the 15-18 range. None of the top qbs will be available at that point.

Both guys have been very underwhelming in the postseason, and we’ve got a spirited debate over who has been the most underwhelming.

There's a difference between being underwhelming and literally the reason your team lost a game. Like Aaron last playoffs. He played underwhelming but he wasnt THE REASON they lost. If you look at that titans and Bengals game is nothing to point to why they lost but Ryan tannehill.

Kiper on ESPN has Saints taking Pickett at #18 and Steelers taking Willis at #20. I don't see Willis or Pickett lasting past #10.

    Struggling with basic concepts??

How about trying to recreate the Steelers Draft Plans into their own image? Talk about the literal sense of "moving the goal posts!!"

Yeah, Tannehill screwed the pooch that game. Tannehill’s shortcomings don’t make LJ a quality QB though.

    Neither do I.

Both are long gone by pick 20. If Pittsburgh wants Willis.. they better trade up like they have never done before just to crack the Top 10. As stated before, this is not a scenario in which a team is trading for a LB but a QB; much different value all together.

Given the fact that the Falcons, Panther and Commanders are all well represented.. I would then imagine that the Steelers best chance is to contact the New York Giants. The Steelers will have two shots by then; first shot is the Giants pick at 5 and the second is the pick at 7. The final deciding factor though is what the Panthers really think of Pickett vs. Willis. One thing is for certain; Matt Rhule seems to have fallen in love with Pickett... at least that is what the ACC Broadcast showcased.

At any point, pick 7 is the target. Next Owners meeting should at least have a report or two of AR II and John Mara within discussion; just how it was with Devin Bush Jr via Pat Bowlen and AR II.

Been trying to tell you, yes you of all people, this since the Senior Bowl. Wish I was making stuff up. This is how the Steelers operate.

Why they would change is something I do not understand; doubly so this late in the process.
