I would make Johnson wait another year before he get the Big Bag. I need to see focus improvement.

Man i don't need stats, i watch the games. He is a good player but still makes too many mistakes in crucial times. And alot because of QB play, he was nowhere near as dominating as the top receivers.

And no way did he have only 5 drops.

Right now Fitzpatrick is all Salary, being his option year. Fitzpatrick signing a long term deal should actually increase the available cap space for 2022.

Trubisky, Witherspoon and possibly one or two others are missing off that sheet as their contract details probably weren’t available or maybe there was a delay signing, I think Mitch only signed his deal yesterday? I’m not sure what the teams actual cap room is but it won’t be $21m once everyone is included

They can still do restructures with Cam and TJ if they want to make more moves

Good point. I have a bad habit of forgetting that part of giving players extensions/long-term deals.

I'd really like to see them get Minkah done soon. Having him locked up would be great and would make the cap situation more clear. They need a SS, too. Then you have to pay the draft picks and they like to leave a little for mid season injury replacement. There are possible restructures. The cap number is still wildly variable but they can make it all work, including a DJ extension if they want and a vet or two later for depth.

They need to lock up DJ unless the contract demands are out of bounds. They can lock up Minkah and lower the cap number this season as stated. They need a strong draft. We are lagging in the receiver department which Colbert is a master of, a strong safety (maybe the Badger gets no interest and they can get him for a one year deal) ILBer, the Tuitt mystery do they need a NT/DT so their still is work to be done.

Watt and Heyward are here for the long term so restructuring them is key. Not many others to ask Sutton maybe. We have a young team for sure. If Tuitt comes back PLEASE don't restructure him.

If we do that we can potentially further bolster the defense for next year with additional shorter term contracts for solid 30+ year old players who are having trouble finding long term contracts. Could Mathieu be in that boat? Akiem Hicks?

Well I guess ignoring stats allows you to imagine him having 50 drops. However, in reality he only had 5.

I’m pro-DJ overall, but those stats are likely regular season only, and he had 2 very memorable playoff drops on the kinds on passes that he’ll see in an RPO heavy scheme next season. I still think we should resign him, but he’s got to learn from that experience how to be more clutch in pressure situations.

It's also important to remember the Rule of 56. Only the top 56 salaries are counted for the salary cap. When we signed Gunner at 2 years/$4 million, his two million salary bumps a lower salary (most likely $705k, minimum salary this year for a player with 0 years experience). So his effective cap hit is only 1.3 million.

Yes, those were all regular season only. I’m not discounting that he had a horrid playoff game. However, looking at his overall body of work he is tops in the league and has solved his drop issue. Sometimes players just have a bad game.

Remember too that this guy did it with mostly zero help. Claypool is no threat, JuJu was out, and I didn’t see Ray Ray drawing a lot of coverage.

DJ was much better in terms of drops last year apart from one or two bad games and I think there is a chance he gets even better. They should pay him if they can get a deal agreed imo.

The Christian Kirk deal has really screwed up the market, DJ is a much better player than Kirk who got over $18m a year from the Jags, that’s probably the baseline for DJ and his agents now.

We have roughly 12million left. Don’t forget we will need a couple million for draft picks and a couple million for in season moves(if necessary). Basically the team has about 5 million to use in free agency if they want. My guess is the only other move they will make between now and cutdowns is to sign edmunds.
