If you're hoping the Steelers don't blow their wad in one way or another on a QB this year, who are looking at in next years draft?

Unfortunately, we could never be bad enough to grab one of the guys that will probably be the top 2 QB's, Young or Stroud. Which, actually is beginning to piss me off. Because we have a quality organization, that operates on a certain level, we never get a shot at the blue chippers? The NFL needs a lottery. The Steelers have had one "natural" top 10 pick in 32 years. That is BS. I'm tired of watching the same teams have top 10 picks every damn year and completely waste them.

Anyway, a few guys I will be watching closely are Jaren Hall, Tyler Shough, and Pitt's own Kedon Slovis. There are others, but I will be keeping a close eye on these three.

Well I look at it like this.
    1. If everyone is so right about all these Qb that have moved around, and that Mason sucks ....We should get a high draft pick.
    2. Most know they are wrong, and If We went 9-7-1 with the so called toughest schedule last year....With old Ben , 24th ranked D, and 32 ranked run D....We can probably get 9- 7 -1 without all that.
So....I promise if they see a Guy they really really want We will move up.
I don't want 2 put up a list of the Guys yet, but I know 3 right now.... I would take over any Qb coming out this draft.

The just move up strategy always ignores that there will be other teams also interested in those three guys. You also need a dance partner.

It’s very likely they miss out on the big names and then where are they?

This is why I am advocating for taking someone this year if they are on the board when they pick.

There could be as many as 8 QB's taken in the first round in 2023.
    CJ Stroud-Ohio St.
    Bryce Young-Alabama
    Anthony Richardson-Florida
    Will Levis-Kentucky
    Phil Jerkovic-Boson College
    Jake Haener-Fresno St
    Spencer Rattler- South Carolina
    Jaren Hall-BYU

Several weeks back I tossed out the concept of trying to find someone who would trade a 2023 1st rounder to move up from the 2nd round this year to lay the groundwork to potentially trade way up in the 2023 draft. If we did that, we could maximize our odds of being in a position to get a top QB by having (2) 2023 1st rounders and a 2024 1st rounder as ammo to get into position. Obviously it would take a trade partner this year to get that ammo, but it has happened more than once. Just a few years ago the Saints traded a future 1st to move up from #27 to #14 to draft Davenport.

Im not saying that we should do this, but it’s a strategy to maximize our odds of being able to pull off a big move next year.

I’ll be seeing Jurkevic and Haener in person (barring injuries) next season. They both play at UCONN.

So BPA also with MIP ( most important position ).
I'm trying to coin the MIP. There are many that have weights that factor in position need and not just BPA. I would suggest the Steelers do it but I don't know for sure.

MIP would include QB L/RT 1 Edge ILB CB/S (scheme based).

So with weight of position (QB is huge weight) we should grab a QB at 20 if they fall?

Is that top 3 top 4 top 5?

We can get into names but I'm asking on your personal rank because I value your insight.

If I am understanding you correctly, I think you are describing BPA at a position of need and I agree, the Steelers do that already.

I would rank QB the MIP and I would rank Willis, Coral, Howell, Pickett as first rd talent that should be taken at #20 if any of them are still there over any other position.

Ben, Watson, Mahomes none of these guys were top 10 picks, so you don't have to always suck to get a franchise QB, it hasn't worked out too good for the Jets and Jacksonville.

i think jacksonville is yet to be determined. cinci didn't do well in year one of burrow either. not saying jacksonville will make the SB year two but the process will begin in the rebuild. i do agree however that you don't have to be a top 10 picker to get a good QB.
