Maybe Tomlin has learned a thing or two since he made it blatantly obvious he wanted to draft Darrelle Revis a few years ago prompting the Jets to trade ahead of them and snatch him.

My opinion is they will sign an affordable vet who is still an unknown quantity like Trubisky. Probably bring back Dobbs and Haskins and maybe a couple of undrafted FA's. My belief is that the only QB they would be interested in getting in this year's draft is Pickett, and I have to believe that they are all too aware that the price to pay to move up to get him is far more than they are willing to pay. I'd rather see them address their piss poor run defense, then secondary if they do, indeed bring in a vet to compete at starting QB. If they do draft a QB at 20, this will be one hell of an interesting offseason on here and in S.W. Pa.

Question: If they sign one of the top free agent QBs for say a 2 year deal worth 17 million, does Mason Rudolph have a problem with his salary next year?

I wouldn't know the answer 2 this Question, but if they do that ....there will be no true competition at the Qb position. You pay a guy more than What all the other Qbs are getting...Well he's basically Your guy.

I was looking over the QB stats for Trubisky and Rudolph.
I don't see MT as a huge upgrade over MR.

I realize that any QB's stats will look better if you exclude their worst game, but Rudolph's stats are heavily skewed by that 7-21 Cleveland game (where he may not have been fully recovered from the previous concussion). Without it, you wipe out 1 TD, 4 INTs, and 4 sacks. His ANY/A improves by more than 1/2 a yard (huge change for only 1 game).

Add in that Trubisky peaked in his 2nd season, with significantly worse results his last 2 seasons in Chicago, and I don't think he is better than Rudolph right now.

I also think Rudolph has taken a bad rap. If we were a classic drop back passing offense with Ben, almost any QB could have stepped in with a small drop in play and enough to win the game. Many look at Batch as the best back-up QB we've had. However, when he stepped in and won games for us, it was still early in Ben's career and he was nothing more than a game manager. A game managing QB plan is the ultimate plug and play. It can be successful if you have a great defense to go along with it and we did. The year Rudolph got the start, he played well. He played so well that if our defense was not on the down turn, he would have been praised for his play. I agree the concussion played a serious role in his remaining games that season. We now have a defense that can keep us in games (albeit we need a bit of an upgrade to stop the run). If we can upgrade the O-line, Mason may just surprise a few of his naysayers. I still believe Mason can me more than a game manager since out game plan no longer caters to Ben's style of play.
