This means Tomlin held 3 sham interviews for Black coaches who were allegedly candidates. We are definitely going to hear that he is racist in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

Fans can't even give Austin a chance to show what he can with the Steelers, before blasting the hire .

Can you tell us how you really feel? Seriously, in general I agree with you. But let's see what happens in free agency, the draft, and finding the next franchise QB before casting stones. I am expecting things to turn sour because they have been tending that way for the past five years, but with an aging Big Ben not captaining the ship anymore, let's see how things play out. If ARII had talked Big Ben into playing another year, then I would have been right there with you.

And what will he do? He won't be calling plays. He won't be in control of the defense.

But after seeing his resume it ain't that good.

A Puppet. Like Butler. Not good...

His stint with the Bengals proves nothing, he will be working with more talented players with the Steelers, it doesn't matter who calls the plays the players still need to execute.

Get a clue, Butler called most of the plays, Arthur Moats said it.

I'm not admitting anything, Austin hasn't assumed his duties yet .

Steelers didn’t interview any existing DCs that had success. It’s shows that they wanted a Tomlin puppet. The Rooney’s suck.

Actually his first year with Detroit they had a top unit. Year two they were about middle of the road IIRC and his stint with the Bengals was an abject failure.

We have all seen as a DB coach how he has developed Edmunds and Layne these last 3 years. Enough Said!

Why can't they go outside the organization and hire someone? Why do they always have to promote from within? Normally when you do that it's a similar result. They should've got someone on the outside but congrats to Austin.

Short version they know what they are getting. Long version it's a no win situation in terms of fans liking it. An outside hire would mean someone who currently doesn't have a job because they were fired or their boss was fired and they got swept up with the trash. If you are looking at someone who currently has a job then you are elevating a position coach to the second highest position on your staff which is a giant question mark. So the choice is live and die with a guy you know or live and die with someone you don't.

Exactly. So that qualifies him to run this unit how? I just don’t get it anymore. It’s like they dont wanna win.

I didn't realize Austin is from Sharon, PA and went to Pitt. So there's an even bigger reason why he got the job.
