Carson Strong!

Looks to me like he didn't put much effort in that 60 yard pass, ..I don't know anything abt him or any other QB coming out, but his arm looked fine to me

 

Yeah, if the pick was second round or later.

 

Art ll also said they're looking for a QB with some mobility, Colbert won't be making the decision on his own, all three of them will l have a say in it.

 

If they don't like any of these guys for rounds 1 or 2, how about a late round pick on Cole Kelley - 6'7" 260

 

6'7 is to tall for a QB

 

I have also always believed that, but I have also always believed anything under 6ft 1- 6ft 2 was short for a Qb ,and We see it all the time now. So...

I cannot remember who it was, maybe Bill Polian. Anyway the talk was on QB height. 6'6 he said was the tallest he would go and preferred 6'5. Amazing how 1 to 2 inches can seemingly make a difference, but history has proved him correct. Will there be a successful taller guy one day. Perhaps. But if yiu are spending a top pick it better be that guy, lol.

 

As I just posted, there are always variables. I think Fran T was 5'10. Of course other shorter QBs have had success. But from my recollection no one over 6'6 has had measured success. Not impossible, just has not happened. I have no clue why1 inch matters, or if it does, but to this point it has lol.

 

It’s just very rare to find a well coordinated person over 6’4”. Even more rare to find one who is also smart enough to play QB professionally and has the arm skill. Even in MLB, there seems to be a steep drop off after 6’4” for pitchers and really tall guys have historically been delayed in their development due to poor coordination/ pitching technique repeatability (for the Pirates, look at Tyler Glasnow)

 

I believe a guy that played for the mariners would argue that. He was a big unit.

not unusual for a guy drafted out of college and put into the minors. 5 years in for his first no no.

 

He didn’t become the Randy Johnson you know until he was like 29. And even if he has developed normally, it doesn’t matter. The point was ability at that height is very rare. Hell, people who are 6’10” are rare enough. One that’s athletically gifted is even more rare

 

true but we are talking about a 6-6 qb. That size is not near as rare. As a qb in the nfl it is though. I know of one 6-6 and one 6-7. If this kid makes it thats 3 over 6-5. None in the playoffs. No running qbs either.

 

You can have a QB with all of the stuff you want and he still needs to run and make plays.....like Patrick Mahomes AKA the best QB in the league. He was the Chiefs leading rusher vs the Bills in the playoffs. Strong could never do what Mahomes does. Hell, he could not even do what Burrow does. He has virtually no ability to create outside of the structure of the offense. Even Brady is a better scrambler than him. I like that Strong operated something that resembled an NFL passing offense but so did Pickett (coincidentally, they have the best throwing mechanics as well), and he can still make plays off-schedule.

I like Pickett and would like to have him, I don't think he will be there is the problem.

 

It's hard to argue with that throw. I will have to look into Strong a little more and see if my opinion changes.

 

That's pretty rare being open to change your position in this day and age. That's admirable.

It's so hard to evaluate college QBs when you don't know how good their team is vs the competition. Strong has the clean pocket and good receivers that have made other QBs look better than they are.

 

There are plenty of videos out there showing Strong deliver under pressure, even stepping up to make a throw despite it.

As far as his receivers, it’s unlikely they’re very good. All will be very late round picks or UDFA

 

I like Pickett quite a bit too, but if him and Howell are both available... I'd run to the podium with Sam Howell's name on the card.

 

Strong looks like a slightly better Reindeer, and the Steelers have one already. With the lack of mobility and our present Oline, he might be turned into steak tartare. I don’t think you can force the drafting of a good QB, you have to draft what’s there when you pick. This ain’t the year and he ain’t the guy. I hope to be proven wrong.
