One of the first things out of his mouth is 2022 is about competing for a Super Bowl and not a rebuilding year at all. That right there is a huge huge problem because if Rooney actually thinks they are close to competing for a Super Bowl with the current roster they have now and no franchise QB currently in place then that is a serious serious problem. This guy is clueless and the longer he continues to believe this and think this way the longer nothing will change and things will continue to stay the same. It’s so damn frustrating to hear Art Rooney say this and actually believe it.

He also said hiring a GM from outside is not out of the question which surprised me. Doesn't sound like he's keen on handing the job to Khan and is lukewarm on Hunt.

Rooney frustrates me too but I hope this is just PR media speak that he thinks they're still in contention. No owner ever wants to flat out say they're in rebuild mode. I want to believe he's not this clueless but he may just be.

Assuming the draft unfolds this way, I fully expect one of the following to be a Steelers this season.

Willis, Howell, Ridder all fit the bill.

No mention of the DC position which probably means promote from within, nothing exciting.

The Steelers flushed the roster last season and did a nice job remaining competitive.
I was surprised they snuck into the playoff as I figured it would take another year.
Finding a QB is going to be a tall task.

He also said that they were not looking for a mobile QB to be a key part of the running game. I don’t think they’re looking for Lamar Jackson V2.0, rather a QB who can use mobility to move in the pocket, extend plays and run for key first downs when nobody’s open.

I’m not pushing for Rodgers but Rodgers is mobile.

Lamar Jackson isn’t a mobile QB, he’s a scrambling QB. I think people on this board and fans are mixing up the two.

But when he said the wave of the future I took that to mean he wants a younger QB. But who the hell knows.

They are keeping Canada, I imagine our new QB is going to be doing his share of running.

He is the #1 key to their running game, so I would say he goes even beyond being a scrambling QB. He’s a running QB. I agree that people often confuse the two.

I took it as the days of the pure pocket passer are done, which is true.

Most NFL GM's do both the player acquisition and also the hiring and firing of coaches.

Colbert is only on the player acquisition side.

They have Kahn as the numbers guy, I don't see how he ever becomes a GM?

I'm guess promoting Hunt is the most likely scenario. What future NFL GM is going to want to come to Steelers and only have half the power?

Just sounds like he is being non specific. If he gets to detailed everyone will know who they are targeting.

If they draft one of those QB’s I listed, they will be running probably more than some of you guys want.

If they draft someone like Strong, they are just looking for to buy time in the pocket and pick up a first down if needed.

Hard to say. At one time Colbert was a nobody from the Detroit Lions. Are there any GM candidates out there formerly from the Pittsburgh area? Cause the Rooney's love that ****.

I’ve only watched a couple of Stong’s games, but enough to say that he isn’t mobile enough to evade an NFL pass rush and create something downfield off-script more than once in a blue moon. I can’t see him being a part of the equation. I don’t mind an occasional designed QB run, especially in the red zone or a QB draw out of a passing formation on a critical 3rd and 3. I mind the QB being a focal point of the running attack.

No. It's Tomlin who is mixing up the two.

If you are looking for a QB with mobility that is important and specific to the offense you run. Otherwise the Steelers would only be looking for a QB who isn't a statue and it wouldn't even come up. Instead it comes up every damn time Tomlin talks about a QB (and he is the GM for all intents and purposes with Colbert stepping down.)

Average QB speed (4.8) would be "mobile" by your definition. Tomlin's definition is different. Don't be surprised if the Steelers draft Desmond Ridder.

I don’t know, but it will be interesting to see if he can do anything when given a fair chance. But the look in his eyes doesn’t give me hope.
