I found out this information from my Bengals fans on FB. all of them ripping on him. I posted Bengals fans will just be glad to see him go cause he owned that team for his whole career except last season. I was kinda rooting for the Bengals this week but boy have they got annoying lately. I think most of them are already sizing up their SuperBowl rings. Many of them guaranteeing going to the SB and winning it.

If they lose the whole town will be [IMG]

I’ve been called worse by better people. I just have higher standards than you. But hey, we all knew this.

    Miami Ohio.

I wonder if fans would be okay today to draft a QB in first round from Miami of Ohio. Fans were prbly desperate back in the day and did not care much.

    Ben-418 TD's, 211 interceptions.
    Terry-212 TD's, 210 interceptions.
Ben threw 206 more TD's and only one more pick.

Different era for what defenses were allowed to do, but yeah, Bradshaw was never really careful with the football. He was one hell of a clutch winner though.

Some of our heroes have flaws. Ben had his, but I think he's likely a much different person today than he was 10-15 years ago. No matter what, no one can deny that he left it all out there every time he took the field. One tough SOB. I'm going to miss watching him play. Thanks for the memories, Ben and enjoy your retirement.

These two weren’t always chummy. Good to see they’ve put that behind them.

    "Miami University"

And yes, I would be fine taking another Miami QB in the first round if he played like Ben did his last season at Miami (I am slightly biased, though). There were several MAC quarterbacks floating around the NFL at the time (Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich for example). Ben just was head and shoulders above the others.

As for "Ben vs Terry", as others have said - different time, different style, different receivers, etc etc. I leave it at "they are the two best QBs in Steeler history". I remember watching Ben at Miami and thought at the time that he possessed one trait of Bradshaw's that I recall- finding a way to win when nothing is going right. I wished that he could be a Steeler but never imagined it would happen. Thank-you Cleveland!

Understood. I probably wouldn’t have wanted him around my daughter in his early days. I think he’s changed.

    Newbie, but not really.
My family goes way back with the Rooney's. I remember the day when my dad slammed down the paper and announced that Bobby Layne
would be 'the Saviour'. The man bled Steelers and was in heaven when he linked up with Art Rooney.
He died before Big Ben came to be, but he did see Bradshaw finally take them to the promised land.
We lived really close to Three Rivers and my dad would always be at Pirate or Steelers games and I of course benefitted too.

Skipping forward, I remember that draft.
At that time, I was working as a beat writer for the Washington Redskins, a team that hasn't seen a real QB in decades.
I was a big fan of Phillip Rivers at the time.
I had some friends in the Steeler Organization that I has talked to, and they said, 'If Ben is there, he is our guy.'

Fast forward some more, that 2nd game... Maddox goes down.
Big starts a historic career, with 'the Bus' trampling defenses and that Steeler Defense shutting offenses down.
A perfect storm to develop a Rookie QB. He didn't have to be Dan Fouts, he just had to make throws when needed
and he stung defenses, even as the play broke down as is a big guy and tough to bring down.

18 years later, I got a sideline pass thanks to some folks, to watch his last home game.
When he threw his last pass, I remember feeling the same way when I saw Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Johnny U, Namath, Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw and other greats, fling their last passes.
    "An era has passed"

I hope the next QB is as successful.
It won't be Dewayne Haskins, that's for sure. (Oh, I know him well from Washington)
I've rooter hard for Mason, but he just doesn't seem to step it up to the next level.
The Pittsburgh front office has always managed to come through somehow someway, for a small market team.
I am anxious to see how they plan this one out.
I am a Kenny Pickett fan, and I know Pittsburgh has been scouting him hard, along with Same Howell and others.
Anyway... Thanks Ben, 18 years went too fast.
