Front page story on NFL.com has ESPN's Chris Mortensen stating the best case scenario is Ben is out three weeks with his rib injury.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...t-ben-roethlisberger-expected-to-miss-3-games

Now what I find curious and I am sure the conspiracy theorists among us will make alot out of it but this time frame just about covers the time he could miss for the birth of his first child. Me personally I think it is just pure coincidence but funny that Mort would report that he misses three games and could be back after the game at the Ravens. Ok let the conspiracy start.

I was gonna come over here and post this same thing. If anyone starts saying that Ben is missing just for the birth or whatever they are morons and TTF should banish them forever to "thebrownsfans.com". Ben is legitimately hurt and I'm honestly surprised that with an injury like that he could make it back this year PERIOD. We need Ben bad but I hope he doesn't rush back and risk his life. That would be a really stupid thing to do. Still if he's gonna be healthy in 3 weeks maybe we can weather this storm and get him back in time for a run.

I look at it in a different way. At least now we won't hear about Ben being selfish for missing a game to see his kid born.

Any conspiracy theories would mostly be tongue in cheek, I think.

I have not heard a single person, either on TV, the radio, or on here calling Ben selfish for wanting to see the birth of his child. If anything, I think people would question him if he did miss the birth.

I'm sure if it was just the shoulder, he'd try to make it back earlier, but with that rib injury being a risk to his life if it were reinjured, that's reason enough to sit out 3 weeks or longer.

It's not, but you know it would happen. Hell, when he first stated he would miss a game for the birth if the situation arrived, some people (not necessarily here) lost their minds.

There was a whole thread on here about whether or not he would be considered selfish for missing a Ravens game for the birth of his child. There were quite a few on here who felt that there should be no way that he should miss a big game for the birth. Frankly, I was surprised at the number of people who thought he should miss the birth for the game. I was BLASTED quite a bit by them.

I think they are keeping open the timetable for his return until after tonight's game.
Probably on tuesday, after our Staff and Management see what happens today, we'll have a little more info.

Also, lets keep in mind that each time Ben has been injured, our staff has been a little mysterious when talking about if he will be back soon or not.

I think if we win the browns game regardless of what happens oday we rest Ben at the Ravens and he comes back he next week....If we lose vs he Browns he may not have a choice but to come back a week early

If we lose our next 2 games, I'm not sure there's any reason to rush Ben back at all.

    This from the article:
Also, though Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu will miss a sixth straight game with his muscle strain, he is getting closer to a return.

What a brilliant statement! He's closer now than he was 6 weeks ago. Yipeee!

How many of you, like me, used to enjoy Troy's Head and Shoulders commercials, but now they just serve as a reminder that he has ALOT of time to make commercials?

Not going to get into a debate on weather he should have missed the game or not, but I have to disagree about the " It's just a game". You may be able to use that for little league or high school, but in todays NFL there's way to many other factors involved to label it as " Just a game" Money, Television, other players, fans just to name a few.

When compared to the birth of his child, yeah, it is just a game, nothing more. Technically it may be more with all the money involved, but as far as one secific player is concerned, and when compared to the birth of that players child, it is just a game. At least that's my opinion.

That wouldn't be a conspiracy theory, that would just be moronic. Instead of just missing one game for the birth he's going to miss three to cover the bases and ward off any criticism that may have come his way. :goofy: And anyone who would get pissed if Ben misses a game for the birth of his son, has some pretty screwed up priorities.

Not to mention, this conspiracy theory would have to take into account the fact that he left during the 3rd quarter of a game that was in doubt, but winnable. Idiots, I tell you, idiots. Hope Ben heals and in his absence Byron plays lights out, so that this team can go after #7

I wouldn't say it's just a game. But will say it's just a job and a paycheck. A person who puts his job over family has different priorities than most of us. Whether it is the injury or the birth of his child, I just hope thay Haley is/was prepared for this because we all knew it was going to happen.

What kind of fan are you TE? You'd rather have Ben disappoint MILLIONS of Steeler fans worldwide and on this MB than to disappoint ONE wife?! Come on, man!

I have an artificial aorta, at least the top part. Nothing to play with guys. I don't think the team or Ben would try to make that stuff up

They're not making it up, I have read several places where the article makes references to doctors confirming the concern. Like this one " Though Roethlisberger said the injury to his first rib on his right side threatened his aorta, a source said doctors believe the greater threat is to the surrounding arteries, vessels and soft tissue." Rest of the article can be found here www.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8648415/ben-roethlisberger-pittsburgh-steelers-likely-3-weeks-source

So, while it's possible Ben didn't have the specifics right, the gist is still the same, it's life threatening.
