tomlins going to the hall rest assured or for some… like it or not. Can’t take it away from him… I just wish the time to move on could be seen up top.

different day and age and the message is old. Sad to say the least.

So according to you Cowher was inducted as part of a watered down class also??? Gotcha.

Tomlin is as worth of the HOF as Barry Switzer. It took both of them 5 years roughly to destroy a dynasty (Switzer did do it one year faster).

I never really thought about that before. You're not wrong.

It's also funny that a lot of Steelers fans wouldn't vote for him but non-Steelers fans would. All they've ever heard is "he's one of the best coaches in the NFL."

Tomlin will get in. I'm happy for him. If Cowher got in Tomlin will for sure.

I really don't care as long as we get a new coach shortly. Letting Tomlin draft the next QB based on "mobility" will just result in 5 more years of mediocrity.

If Tomlin gets into the HOF. Then I will just think Cowher was soooo good he got that idiot into the HOF. Pretty impressive (for Cowher) if you look at it that way.

The way I see it the more Tomlin screws things up the faster his contract wont be renewed. He wants a mobile QB because he will have to run for his life.

That's not really fair. Cowher and Lebeau were responsible for assembling that championship defense. I think Tomlin's longevity is attributable to Ben. HOF QBs all but guarantee winning in the regular season against bad and average teams. So I would say Cowher, Lebeau and Ben got Tomlin in the HOF.

I think already we were seeing some defensive concepts from Tomlin in 2008 that we see now. Those defenses got gashed up the middle. Remember Larry Fitz popping off? I think if Tomlin had been able to fire Lebeau and install his puppet then that defense would have been ruined.

ARII is to blame at this point. It's always something. It will be "Oh the QB was a rookie." Always a story.

This isn't a narky reply, I'm just trying to get what you're saying.

Are you saying that against a bad team the wins are all on the QB, but against a good team its the team/coach? Not sure I follow.

Not even close. Seifert would be a better example. Switzer took a legit dynasty and won 6 games with it in his 4th season and has been out of football ever since.

There is no “if” Tomlin goes to the HoF, he’s going. Aside from some type of scandal he’s a lock.

I'm just saying you need less to beat a bad team. The bottom 10 teams this year averaged 20 points per game on offense or less. An elite QB is going to score 20 points on offense almost every game so during the regular season against a bad team that alone should get a win. But once you get to the playoffs and the other teams are all good 20 points per game isn't going to always win and it's going to be harder to put those points up against a good defense.

The Bengals are the only playoff team that isn't top 15 in defense. Every other team left is top 15 in both offense and defense. The opposite is often true vs. bad teams in the regular season.

It has turned into the Hall of Good not Great. it used to be only 4 people got in a year and no dumps of old timers getting in at once. Tomlin will probably get in but he has underachieved for about 6-7 of his years as coach. Having not had a losing record is more attributed to the lousy division where he was guaranteed 4 wins a year thanks to the Bungles and Train wreck brownies. Plus, he had a Hall of Fame QB to help. With those advantages, he has faile4d to make the playoffs numerous times and then get outcoached badly in playoff games. Please explain how a defense gets beat deep with 17 seconds left in the half on 3rd and twenty this past week. Tomlin is not great or horrible. Just an average coach given a sweet gig. He did not wreck dad's Ferrari but he cant get it out of second gear either. I don't expect greatness under his leadership and now with no QB, we embark on some lean years. Hope they are bad enough we move on from him.

Seifert had way more success than Tomlin. He won 2 Super Bowls and 15 playoff games in 8 years with SF. Not only that but Seifert was the DC on Walsh's teams from 1983-1988. Walsh won in '81 without Seifert but Seifert was a major part of the other 4 Super Bowls.

It's disrespectful to Seifert to put him with Tomlin who has won 3 playoff games in the last 11 seasons when Seifert won 15 in 8. I'd take 2 playoff wins a year vs 1 every 4 years.

And you have to think about the teams that beat the 49ers: Parcell's Giants, Jimmy Johnson's Cowboy's x2, Holmgren's Packers x2.

The biggest criticism of Seifert has to be his record against elite teams of his era. They only beat the Cowboys once. On the other hand they only lost to Super Bowl winning teams.
    ...

Tomlin lost to Stefanski's Browns and Stefanski wasn't even there and lost to Marrone's Jags who were 13-23 or something under him.

2 of Tomlin's 3 wins came over Marvin Lewis' Bengals and Adam Gase's Dolphins- neither of those coaches has 1 playoff win in 21 years of experience...

If you go by each year of Tomlins career. Lets see if he overachieved or underachieved

07 under first round playoff loss at home to bad Jags team.
    08 over - super bowl
    09 under no playoff
    10 over- made super bowl
11 under under under achieved- really - losing to Tebow at QB who could not pass ball. horrible joke loss
    12 under no playoffs
    13 under no playoffs
14 push - made playoffs but lose first round to rats.
    15 under no playoffs
16 over achieved by making AFC champ- But get depantsed by Belichick and take a hit on reputation in a really pathetic showing. Sort of like Cowher in 01, 04
17 under- JAx loss at home was some of the worst defense ever to lose to that QB Bortles yuck
    18 under no playoffs
19 over- he competed with joke qbs nice job
20 under achieved by losing at home to browns . That snap and undisciplined team and d was some bad coaching
21 over achieved- did a good job making playoffs with a bad o and d.

9 under and 4 over and one push.

Being a weak division with 4 wins in the book most years and he has underachieved. Any average coach would have had same results. We should have hired our o line coach instead. Hey but Tomlin is great at the podium. Just not on the field.

Kind of reminds me of the Rock and Roll HOF. I'm pretty sure every band who has a decent following will one day get in there.

Only reason I ever want to visit Cleveland.

Ok Fellow Monday morning qb's. Lets see if you can coach a NFL football team. It third and 20 and there is 17 seconds left in the half. You are only down by 7 as a huge underdog and are fighting like crazy. What defense should you be playing. A) cover deep B) cover short) C) just stand there and let a slow poke TE go for 50. Game over

I often wonder what Mike Tomlin success would have been minus a HOF QB????? I always remember the rare praise he got on this board the year we finished at .500 when we loss Ben.

Switzer’s age is probably what stopped him from coaching elsewhere. He was fired because Jerry Jones will pull the trigger faster than a Rooney.

Seifert was the 49ers coach for 8 years. He won 2 Super Bowls and made to the NFC championship game 3 other times. He only missed the playoffs one time. He had 9 playoff wins in 8 years more than Tomlin has in 15 years and counting. My guess is Tomlin won’t reach that mark until his 20th season or worse. You might as well compared Tomlin to Vince Lombardi.
