The proper use of "Steeler" as an adjective - from a boomer

In the 70s we went to Steeler games, we looked for the Steeler channel on TV, we were part of Steeler Nation, and we debated our favorite Steeler players. We bought Steeler jerseys and Steeler flags.

At some point this practice became soiled with the convention of every other team. They talked about Steelers games, Steelers players, and even Steelers Nation (ugh) - ignoring the unique parlance of Steeler Nation. We are the only team with our logo on one side of our helmet, and we are the only team with the proper singular form of team adjective. Let Eagles fans ask when the Eagles game is on. We ask when the Steeler game is on. Let the Eagles fans order cool Eagles jerseys. We'll order cool Steeler jerseys.

In these times of underperforming Steeler teams, let's remember correct terms. It is a comfort.

May want to check the logo as it says steelers. Maybe the people who made this sign just weren't very good at English.

 

I think nostalgia is why we are mediocre. Any other NFL team would have fired Tomlin for producing 3 playoff wins in 11 seasons with a first ballot HOF QB and some very talented teams.

To a definite extent I think this is true. This praise of stability being the most important to this franchise has resulted in being afraid to take chances to this teams detriment. This off-season will be telling on what they do with the coaching staff. If they just promote from within, then you know nothing has changed.
