Wondering if we could use Claypool like Deebo Samuel

I'd just be happy if they used Derek Watt as a Full Back. Biggest waste of a contract in NFL history.

The entire team and coaching staff does. Not just a few select players.

If you're talking about putting him in the backfield that wouldn't make much sense, since you'd weaken two positions. He's not better than Najee as a RB and whoever else you put at wideout is worse than Claypool.

Thats what I was thinking for this Copy-Cat league. How many teams are going to be moving a WR to the backfield next year?

And for us Claypool would be the guy to move to the backfield.

Samuel is a better RB than any of the RB's on Niner's roster. That's not the case with Claypool with the Steelers.

I guess you could do it every now and then when giving Najee a blow, but that would be about it, imo.

21 listed Fullbacks currently on an NFL roster. That should tell you how important the FB is to the modern NFL. People need to move on from the 90's.

And if you think paying Derek Watt 3.2mm per year to be a really good special teams player and to occasionally block when needed is the biggest waste of a contract in NFL history then you have a very limited knowledge of the NFL.

They do just not as much as Samuels and mostly on jet sweeps.

He has 112 yards on 24 carries for 4.7 yards so they are successful when they use him that way. Which they should.

Yea. You know when it's 3rd and 2 I'd rather chuck it down field 30 yards for the higher percentage play than to put it in the hands of a star rookie running back following a lead blocker. That makes so much more sense.

Give me 90's football any day of over this latest boneheaded play calling.

The Steelers can go ahead and play 90's football while all the other teams play modern football and then they can go 0-17 every year. But at least you get your FB.

Not a big fan of the band but KISS-Keep It Simple Stupid

Plus I'd rather see a 20-16 game than a 49-43 game any day.

He falls over far too much for me to be confident in us leaning on him as true back making cuts, ball security etc

I struggle to see how his traits fit any more than the splash play role he’s got.

I’m hoping next year he can make some big steps towards being a bully mismatch on the outside more often

Agreed, he doesn't use his size to his advantage. Most of the time I think Ben is throwing to Claypool on the outside hoping for PASS INTERFERENCE PENALTY, rather than hoping he catches the ball.

Maybe a new QB will be able to throw those deep jump balls you used to see Ben throw to Plax.

Not true, I'm fairly certain that distinction goes to Greene with a strong second place to Reimersma, oddly both TE's

Diontae will be their leading WR.

Wonder how many of the "few hundred" did he splash on the turf? The practice field must look like Omaha Beach.

Funny, isn't Claypool the one that is always falling down?

If Pickens steps forward it will be a three horse race to a 1,000 yards.

It's tough for me to say which WR will have the best season. I'm leaning more towards Diontae. But it really wouldn't surprise me one bit if Pickens ends up being the #1 very early in the season. The kid is just that good. It's ultimately going to come down to who Mitch or Kenny feels the most comfortable with.

As for Claypool, I expect him to be better than last year. I also expect to see him get the ball a ton in jet sweeps and pop passes. With there going to be tons more layers added to the scheme, compared to last year, I think we're going to see a far more exotic offense. Doesn't mean it's going to be successful.
