How close were the Steelers to being eliminated last night?

I don't know what to believe anymore. Derek Carr's bro David on NFL Network said Derek told him there was no way he was settling for a tie, if he got that word he would have gone for the FG anyway.

I just don't get why any team would settle for a FG when the odds of a muff or block are minute. You have the chance to go from last seed to #5 and guarantee you don't have to play in Foxboro or LA to play a rival that almost beat you again.

So do the shadow NFL agents punish them for not going along with the plan?

The largest margin was 15 points, 29-14. The fourth down you referenced was actually fourth-and-21 from the 23. They could have gotten a first down without scoring a touchdown, but the pass was caught in the end zone.

I just watched the last five minutes of regulation and the overtime because I couldn't stay up late enough last night. It really was amazing how many chances the Raiders had to put the game away, only to blow it.

There was zero chance of a tie. Looks like I was dead right.

Yeah, those conversions were mind boggling. Big play after big play by both teams on both sides of the ball. It was a slug fest. Not sure if anyone is familiar with the boxing trilogy of Gatti vs. Ward but that it what it felt like. Players were gassed and somehow able to dig and deliver another play after another.

I was actually confused when the TO happened because I didn’t know they were just going to let it tie up. I thought they were both playing to win and the Chargers coach was just giving his defense some time to catch their breath and make one last strong stand and not allow the Raiders to get closer and try to win.

Maybe that’s why I’m not a coach. I understood the logic to try and not let the your rival Raiders do what actually ended up happening and win. It’s just that the Raiders made one more play at the end of the game before the kick. How was the Chargers coach supposed to know the Raiders we’re gonna just let the clock run out? unless they were in the victory formation and I missed it.

I read several places that the Raiders were motivated to avoid playing KC, which they did with a win. Let's help 'em out by knocking KC out of the playoffs.

He called Staley’s coaching absolutely reckless and said he belongs in Division 3 football not the NFL. He really laid into him good and rightfully so.

Really? I felt like the Raiders tried hard to win that game. On that final drive they threw a pass on first down. And took several other risks. Also, the crazy come back by the chargers with all those fourth down completions in their last two drives was just nuts. You can’t really script that. I really don’t get the conspiracy theories that swirl around the NFL. Do you know how many people would have to be involved in that and how quickly it would break down.

A Rookie Head Coach... but yes, a bit overrated in my opinion thanks to overhype by the media.

I was stressed enough with the end of our game. I’m glad I waited to read the news in the am.

Let's not forget...Ryan Succop kicked us right out of the playoffs in '13 with his missed FG against the Chargers. And that's not the only time we've needed help that we did not get. Many times it hasn't gone our way. You play a whole season...down to the last game....then you have the playoff teams. I don't want to hear this crap about "total luck," etc. When the dust settled...the Steelers were one of 7 teams still standing. That makes us a playoff team. We did enough to get in. That's the way it works. It seems "lucky" because it happened the last week of the season. But stuff happens in week 4 that puts teams in or out. LET'S GO STEELERS!

Not only that...but all the Steelers players staying up and watching the game...then tweeting right after. Those guys cared. And they don't think they are going to KC to be sacrificial lambs. LET'S GO STEELERS!

Going for it on 4th down at your own 18 yard line in the first quarter, is just dumb.

Dammit Ben stop toying with my emotions. I'm getting old here. We need to get Bus, Da'Beard, Deebo, and Baby Jesus AKA Troy P. to flank Ben and make him sign his name to the official documents and then let Ike hold onto them because we all know Ike would never drop something like that, not when it is right in his hands
