I hope you have as much success in your “retirement” as BA has, Kev. ;)

Okay, maybe Steelers hall of fame, but not NFL hall of fame. Who on that list realistically would make it? I say TJ if he continues his trajectory and maybe Cam.

I always assumed that when Colbert stepped down it would be Kahn's job. I thought I remembered seeing a few years ago that Kahn was thinking about leaving and they told him he's next in line, kind of like Butler was.

Who handles in-season roster moves? If that is the GM, what a complex job! Shuttleing practice squad, injury replacements, IR, keeping an eye on who is available, salary cap, etc. has so many moving parts. Kudos and thanks.

    Indeed.

Not too many hits there. That said, not easy finding another one for sure. Kevin will conduct his final one in 2022 so let us hope his remaining draft magic can strike gold one final time.

True. And I sure hope steelers don't draft QB this year. I just don't see the talent there this year. Weak QB class. The sentimental Pickett pick would be foolish IMO.

If you click on the Twitter post, you’ll see that prior to Heath he drafted Ben, Troy and Big Snack.

Why not NFL Hall of Fame?! Heck, Dick Haley, who was the GM of the Steelers Dynasty of the 1970s, is still not enshrined in Canton... if he ever does. Compared to not just his contemporaries but those all time, Kevin Colbert is easily one of the best ever. How high in rankings though is anyone's guess.

    Acquiring more than Five HOF players is one thing. Not having a losing season in a generation is another. Yes, I agree with @KnoxVegasSteel@KnoxVegasSteel in the vein that there are some misses; some greater than others. However, Kevin's triumphs in the draft far outweigh his failures. For context, Bill Belichick has the likes of Ty Law, Willie McGinest, Richard Seymour, Chandler Jones, Adam Vinatieri and Tom Brady. Of these six players, five are likely or will head to Canton at some point. That said and, it bears repeating;

The Hall of Fame is not reserved for mere highlights of one's career. The Hall of Fame is reserved for sustained excellence over an extended period of time. No doubt Bill Belichick will head to Canton as a Head Coach. As a General Manager though?? He should but he faces stiff competition to get in; the HOF Voting Committee even allowing it in the first place.

Sure, Kevin Colbert is no Bill Nunn; no NFL Scout has or ever will be in my opinion. That said, to say Colbert is not worthy of a Gold Jacket merely based on the trajectory of two players is quite unfair.

Do not see a QB worth investing at all this season. Offensive Line though??? Me and you can both agree that there are quite a number of good targets to choose from!! :drinks:

Hoping we go OL in the first round. Getting a real C in Linderbaum would be sweet IMO. But doubtful he'll be there when we pick middle of 1st round. I'd be happy with Neal as he had played T on both sides and is a big physical guy who could likely move inside too. The K Green experiemtn at C needs to be over and put him Ina position where he can be successful because C ain't it. I'd also like to see them be in the mix to sign or trade for an experienced LT. Probably won't happen like this but I'd be happy if it did.

well, you do need a backup QB and for the most part they preferred a mid to late draft pick than a veteran, Leftwich and Vick notwithstanding.

I actually am more perplexed by the drafting of a long-snapper and punter.

I do not have as much faith for Tyler Linderbaum not being the pick as I did months ago but for differing reasons. Has nothing to do with the pick as, between me and you, Tyler Linderbaum will be one of the best Interior Offensive Line Prospects to come out since Zach Martin and arguably the best Center Prospect to come out since Kevin Mawae. My issues pertain to Colbert's draft history in regards to the University he plays for in Iowa; Colbert and, this is actually quite shocking, never selecting a single player from that University. Want to know something even more bizarre??...

... The Steelers have never selected an Iowa player within the first three rounds dating back to the AFL/NFL Merger. In fact, that last Steelers player to play for Iowa was a Linebacker by the name of Mike Humpal. What is even more crazy is that Mr. Humpal is actually the highest selected Iowa player during that time span, a Sixth Round Pick. Next highest one is Mike Saunders, a tenth Round selection in the 1992 NFL Draft.

If there were a draft to buck trends... this is it. Players like Tyler do not come around very often.

His contract is up after the draft. Also, it's likely that the Steelers already know who is taking his place and it's someone internal. The Colbert will assist with the transition.

The GM handles those jobs yes...although people prefer to blame Tomlin for any mistakes with those jobs.

Seems like we have decent luck with Tennesse Vols players. This is a bit of a homer pick for me because he is a local knoxville guy. But Cade Mays from UT has declared for the draft. I wouldn't take him 1st round but 2-3 seems very reasonable if he is there at OG. He went to knoxville catholic and was committed to UT but then switched to GA when the UT dumpster fire coaching search was going on. He transferred back to UT and played 2 seasons here with his little brother, Cooper Mays. Who, BTW will be a legit NFL C, IMO coming out in another year or two. I think Cade Mays is a guy to watch.

I have heard very good things about Brandon Hunt, and he WILL succeed Kevin Colbert, mark it down!

I have a ❓...If the Steelers would hire Hunt ( He's a minority ) How does that work at all, regarding compensation...

I know, If you hire a minority from ANOTHER team for a HC or GM, you get compensated with a 3rd round compensatory pick...

But, How would that work if you promote from within? They SHOULDN'T punish you for that, but I don't know how that works... Anyone?

There's gotta be a reason that every team that interviewed him passed on him. The guy's an accountant and genius with numbers but evaluating and developing talent is a whole different aspect.

I'm well aware of everyone's functions, but I've always been an advocate of the coaches picking their players rather than working with what he's given.... Put the GM'S in charge of signing and maintaining the cap and give the head coach the say in how the team is built

Is Omar Kahn ready??? The word is he has trouble evaluating talent.
So I am going to have to pass.
