I'm not saying I'm comfortable with ANY game. I just think that if we're going to be worried about going into a game without our starting quarterback it should be the two Ravens games. Cleveland will play us tough - they always do. But I think that not having Ben could actually HELP them in the Clowns game because, they will have to put away any notion of taking the week off in preparation for Ravens II. Instead, they'll be forced to enter the game with a higher level of intensity and focus.

Yeah - you're probably right. I guess that settles it. We should fjust FORFEIT the next 3 games. This will allow the team to get healthy and perhaps make a run in the last month of the season. Why even trust any of our backups to play at this point. In fact - maybe we should just play with a 24-man roster. When a starter gets injured, we forfeit until he gets better.

The Packers beat us in the superbowl with 15 players on IR, backup players have to step up, thats a fact of life in the NFL and they dont get contracts because they look good sitting on the bench, coach em up and let em play to earn their keep....

no i'm sure your right. we should be the favorites going into this week and favorites to win the SB. for an educator,i'd figure you could have a educated conversation, but i guess i was wrong about that too.

Actually, the correct way to say it is, "No, I'm sure YOU'RE right..."

There is nothing "uneducated" about a little sarcasm in an online posting. It is just a way to illustrate the disagreement that I have with the idea that the Steelers cannot win against the Ravens with the players we have.

Your statement implies that the Steelers may as well forfeit games until they get the right "horses" on the field. So, why not do it?

I, instead, prefer to think that there are 53 men on the team for a reason, and that any of those 53 should be ready to play at any time. I know that the "Tomlinism" that "The standard is the standard," is often ridiculed in this forum, but it is just another way to say to the players and the fans that the expectation is there to go out and win a football game no matter who has to play at any given position. And - why should we expect anything different? To give up and say that we cannot win with the players we have is to admit defeat, and if a Steelers coach, team member or the FO were to come to the media and say, "...we just don't have the horses to do it this week," we would be up in arms. Why? Because to admit defeat before the coin is even tossed is unprofessional and unacceptable. Fans, coaches, the GM AND owner have a right to expect anyone who plays against the Ravens on Sunday to come away with a victory. Will it happen? Maybe and maybe not. But a team that is already beaten before it even starts may as well not even play the game.

So, what should we do? Forfeit? or put the best 53 on the field on Sunday night and see if maybe we can come away with a win? I vote for the latter.

    A C sprain?

The A-C or Acromioclavicular Joint is a synovial joint that provides the only bony attachment of the arm to the axial skeleton. It is comprised of the clavicle (collar bone) and the acromion process of the scapula (shoulder blade). When this joint is injured, normal arm movement and function is severely limited. The joint functions as a strut, providing a pivot point for the scapula and thoracic vertebrae. As the arm is raised, the scapula rotates away from the spine, the A -C joint provides the pivot point for this to occur. Three ligaments support this joint: the acromioclavicular ligament and two coracoclavicular ligaments.

The most common mechanism of injury is falling on a out-stretched arm, using the arm to catch one’s self. The force of falling “jams” the head of the humerus into the A - C joint above. The resulting force sprains or tears the three ligaments (seen to the right) holding the joint together. Another mechanism of injury is to fall on or have a direct blow to the joint. This causes the clavicle to be pushed down spraining the joint.

No he really meant SC* sprain. It's a sprain to the stereo-clavicular joint of the shoulder. I would imagine that is why it was classified as "unusual" last night.

*Sorry I initially said JC...iPhone autocorrected it

An SC Shoulder Sprain is what knocked Bret favre out, ending his consecutive starts streak. Based on the literature I have read, it is a 2-4 week healing process, depending on severity.

we will play the game to win. we will still be outmanned. way to many playmakers out. sure i'll root for them to win, but i wouldn't put my last $100.00 on it. those guys that are hurt are our money men. i've really yet to see these backups step up and take advantage of their opportunity. it's been awhile since we have beat this team with a full alotment of our players. sure anything could happen but if i'm a bettin man, i'm tucking my money away this week.

I had this happen to me in college. I could not throw the ball back from first base to the pitcher without having severe pain. I ended up DHing the season. It hurts like hell but then again Ben is a lot tougher than I am.

Dennis Dixon was on the ratbirds practice squad, but he isnt now, probably not a bad idea to bring him back since he knows the system and Haley could use his quick feet and big arm....

The Steelers know the Ravens as well or better than any other team in the NFL. They don't need Dixon's help.
