What do people think of totally cleaning house this offseason. Ben retires, so does Tomlin, Colbert and all the coaches and coordinators?

Then no one can place the blame solely on Ben sucking, Tomlin being incompetent, Colbert having lost "it", bad coordinators, etc.

I’ve never heard this idea proposed before. This is new and exciting material.

What if all the questions about Tomlin's job security are affecting his performance? Maybe promote Tomlin to HC/GM like Belichick and make those lifetime positions which are heritable to future generations of Tomlins?

I can see Colbert maybe leaving or retiring, he is year to year any ways. But, has said he wouldn't leave and put the Steelers in a bad spot.

Tomlin won't get canned. Not going to happen. Art Jr. is going to really have to be super worried or upset for it to happen. He just never seems to ever seem upset.

I think everyone knows how I feel about this organization lately. Been wanting to blow the whole thing up for at least 3 years now.

I am ready to move on but I don't see any way they will. It is a lot like the situation this year with Ben. Just going to have to ride it out and hope for the best.

If Art II is that blind to the downslide of this organization that's insanity.

But i'm just a stupid fan stating the obvious...

ArtII, and the Rooneys in general, view and value stability above all else. It's a feature, not a bug, in their eyes. We as fans think differently.

Given the success of the franchise over the last 50 years it's difficult to argue with them. It's a formula that has served them well and, in their eyes, will continue to do so. Remember back in 2000 and 2003 when people were calling for Cowher to be canned and the Rooney's held the line. In hindsight, you can't argue with what subsequently happened.

We can huff and puff and say the game has changed, and whatever other arguments you want to make, but for the Rooneys it's all about stability and disciplined adherence to the formula.

When it comes to the HC, we all know the drill and it's not going to change:

    a. They'll hire an NFL assistant in his 30's from outside the organization
    b. That person will be here for a long time
    c. That person will not be fired for three, or even five, years of what we consider subpar results. Cowher went 6 years with only two playoff wins at one point.

    That's the Steeler Way.

edit: From a business standpoint, you have to have a differentiator from your competition in order to succeed. This is the Steelers' differentiator. Without that, in the Rooney's eyes, they're just like 20-25 other NFL franchises.

edit II: Tomlin or Colbert may decide to walk away and ArtII will let them go, but they won't be forced out.

he does not care, he does not have the fire in his belly that the rest of his family had.

    He sucks.

we need an organizational leadership enema - but it won't happen

Diontae Johnson said it was nice to see a lot of players at the Office yesterday - I guess they are going to get serious now

    See my post above.

It's not about lack of caring or fire. Quite the contrary. He cares deeply. He, and his father before him, just value and prioritize things differently than fans.

The Rooney's are going to do things the way they always do things. TBH, I'm constantly befuddled by sentiments such as yours. The Rooneys for 50 years have been incredibly consistent in their behaviors when it comes to the HC and during that time have been very successful as a franchise. Given those two facts (consistent behavior and success) why in the world would anyone expect, or in some ways, want, them to deviate from the script?

Because.... We're NOT having success! 3 playoff wins in 11 years, 2 of those 3 to backup QB's...

You act like this " lack of success " just started....4 years out of 15 years with Tomlin, We've won a playoff game!

You can brand that as stability and success...not me

I agree with most of what you are saying. The '05 team had some puck luck, with the Palmer injury in the Cincy game, Roethlisberger tackle of Harper on Bettis' fumble, and the Indy missed FG. Cowher could have been Marty Schottenheimer with a SB loss. Tomlin had some puck luck in '08 with Brady's ACL, Tennessee #1 seed losing, and the Harrison 1st half walk-off pick 6. If Arizona scores there, I am not sure the Steelers win SB43.

My point is the shelf life of a one championship coach may be about 15 years. Tomlin's contract will take him to 18 years. Since Tomlin hasn't had that first losing season, he still has a long leash. I expect ARII to say the injuries, inexperience on the o-line, and cap issues were the main reasons for the .500 type season. I expect Tomlin to be back, but the coaching staff will have several changes.

First, take a deep breath and relax.

Next, I'm not saying anything beyond trying to provide context as to ArtII's mindset here. They have a way of doing things and it's served them well over the long haul. They're going to stick to it.

You can agree or disagree with that thinking, but to deny it is pure folly. It's the way it is with the Steelers and the Rooneys.

Seeing how they let Klemm find another job, I doubt anyone gets fired.
Which makes this even more frustrating.

Stop feeling sorry for players you like and giving them far too many chances.

Stop letting coaches retire or find another job, Fire them, don’t worry about hurting their feelings or how it makes you look.

This is what makes it even more sad.

    Canada needs to go!

He created an offense meant for a running QB and his RB from Maryland, Anthony McFarland.

    He situationally can’t call plays.

Exactly! Half this board as well as Art are living in the past! 11 years of basically nothing should be enough of a sample size me thinks.

Every year at the conclusion is the same empty promises fix the running game fix the D get rid of this coordinator blah blah blah. When does the buck stop with the guy actually in charge. I’m not even saying mt is a bad coach his regular season clearly states otherwise but he has beyond ran his course here.

Except that they are, not just the success that you want. They are the second most winning organization since 2000 behind only the Pats.

They have no reason to change that formula looking at it from that perspective.
