Really? Did they know this was coming? I have liked what Klemm was bringing to the line. He was better than Sarret.

Is he for real leaving? Would be fine by me because it gives the Steelers another chance to hire a quality candidate. Although let's face it, they'll probably just promote his assistant and screw it up again.

Good point. Evaluating coaching talent isn't a Tomlin strong point.

Did anyone know William Gay is a defensive back’s coach at Missouri State for his former coach Bobby Petrino?

No but then again I didn't know Deshea Townsend was a DB coach in New Orleans either.

I went to a Trinity high school game here in Louisville Ky they were playing Carmel High out of Indianapolis and Carmel’s WR coach was Deion Branch former Patriot. The last team he played for was the Colts so he just stayed there. He told the local news he would coach at the University of Louisville in any capacity. He’s a former Louisville Alum who ripped my heart out in the AFC Championship Game when they knocked the Steelers out of a Super Bowl.

It's one of his major downfalls and he ends up hurting himself and the team because of it.

Klemm signing with Oregon was a shock to all involved. Klemm had previously been asked if he would coach at a college level and replied, "You know, I coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I have one of the best jobs in professional sports. Suggesting I would coach at a college level is a joke to me. An absolute joke. This is the last time I will address it- not just now but going forward."

Have no idea if Klemm would end up producing a good line here but people should keep in mind that Munch had more to work with and took more than 1 season.

I expected to see something from the line though by this point and for a brief period it looked like they were coming together but now have regressed.

I hope they get a known talent next time.

The Steelers probably could have kept Russ Grimm until 2017.

I'm pretty sure Arians sold Colbert and Tomlin on Zierlein being the best guy to run his offense.

Anyone know what went on there? I'd love some insight on that.

Let's hope Denver fires their entire staff and we get Munch back.

Russ Grimm lost the head coaching gig to Tomlin, he wasn't gonna stay here. Would have been too awkward. He followed Whiz to Arizona. Munch moved to Denver to be closer to his daughter. He is not coming back here. He'd likely retire if canned in Denver.

So it was just an ego thing for Grimm or did Tomlin think it would be awkward?

You think it was Grimm? Because he never advanced to HC or even OC anywhere else.

Arizona didn't think he should be HC either. At least the Steelers gave him an interview. Really disappointing.

I did not agree with Klemm being hired, but then he grew on me. I think he did the best he could with who he had to work with.

I wonder what assistant or former player Tomlin will hire to take this role.

I don’t know the ins and outs but I seem to remember there was some controversy when a reporter claimed Grimm had got the HC role, and it seemed the Rooneys had discussed contract and salary with both Grimm and Tomlin prior to any formal offer being made

Not sure it was ever revealed. Grimm was a candidate same as Whiz. The Rooney's wanted to wait, Cards didn't and made Whiz the offer. Grimm interviewed but after Tomlin blew the doors off. Not sure Tomlin ever made him an offer. What was clear is that Faneca and the Oline were not happy about Grimm being passed over. The hated Coach Z and basically coached themselves since Zerlien had no clue how to teach zone blocking.

The major issue is that Tomlin has no style on offense so he can be sold on a bill of goods by coaching candidates that don't deliver. See Ike Hilliard's reasoning for playing Ray Ray over Washington when Juju got hurt for exhibit A

It is time for the Steelers to pony up and get a well known OL coach
    that understands the run game.

Thanks for the explanation. It seems relevant now that the OL needs a rebuild.

Tomlin seems to buy into whatever is considered the new thing in the NFL just as not as hard as some coaches. Tomlin letting Ben run shotgun all these years irritated the **** out of me because of the afterthought our running game became. The decline in the running game was immediate and continues to this day.

Yep Ben's fascination with the 3WR 1 TE and 1 rb personnel package has fueled the decline of the run game as well. I watched a lot of football the last week and a half and teams that are pounding the football are bringing extra linemen dbl TE's and lead blockers with a lone receiver. Teams with a mobile QB are having success with running from those groups as well. Steelers continue to try and run out of those spread formation looks and teams aren't buying it.

Thats what gets Me. I would have bet money they were slowly getting better, and then all of a sudden they started regressing. Seems weird He would leave 2 coach the same position, but in college.
