was thinking about this yesterday. OBV with Ben out in 2019, it was pretty putrid.

But we need to go waaaaay back to see something this deplorable.

Tomlin, Canada, sucky line play - that about sums it up.

Was Claypool benched late yesterday for Washington? that is is what it appear to to me....

Claypool was benched late yesterday. Claypool for the day has 2 targets, 2 drops, and 0 catches. Very sad

1999 was pretty damn bad offensively. Bettis was the only weapon.... Ward was just starting to emerge. We had rookie Troy Edwards who turned out to be a bust.... so Steelers drafted Burress in 2000 with #8 pick.

Sad...That makes a 1st and a 2nd that shouldn't be here imo...Bush and Claypool can both go...Not Steeler type players, except they are in Tomlins eyes!

Ever since the late / great Darryl Drake passed away we have seen a serious drop off in WR play. Washington is a flat out bust. Johnson has had a rocky start to his career.... he seems to have finally cured his drop yips but he's still just an above avg WR that is easily shut down against good corners. Claypool has the physical tools to be awesome and he's just not. His technique is deplorable. His route running is inconsistent at best. He consistently gets beat for the ball by smaller corners. Makes mental errors every game.

The fade in the endzone where he got the PI call was really a great example of Claypool's problems. Any good WR with his physical tools wins that battle with the corner. That was an easy one on one battle that he should win every time. The ball was placed where it needed to be. He was saved by a PI call that rarely gets called in today's NFL. They usually allow the hand battle on those types of routes. He needs coaching from someone else that can get through to him. If he's not hungry enough to put in the work to take that next step then he'll never be more than a back up.

I have a feeling this guy will someday grow up and realize his window of opportunity is about to close...he'll then work on his craft and be a late bloomer on another team. Just my prediction. I hope it happens this offseason because he could be special.

Bush was actually playing decently well yesterday - the best I have seen him play all year. Chase....the freaking ball bounced right off his face mask. He needed to sit.

I believe that was 2000 season. Graham started early in the year and Kordell took over after Graham was benched. Offense was better in '00 than '99, IMO. Steelers whipped a good Raiders team that year... Kordell had a helluva game. Last season of Three Rivers Stadium.

I laugh when people say we don’t have a #1 receiver, DJ is ranked 8th in the league. WTF are some of you watching.

It’s the drops, people can’t get over that stuff, he had a bad few games last year and so he sucks for all eternity

What I remember that season is a lot of posters changed their opinion of Mike Tomlin but only for a short time. They thought he did a decent job considering the circumstances. Another poster recently posted a thread giving Tomlin props for what he has done this season with the injury situation. He sure the hell didn't get many likes.

DJ is a true #1, and will cash in this offseason. Get him you and relatively cheap, if we can....

He puts up the stats but doesn’t take over games. I think that’s the difference.

Agree 100%. If Steelers had a competent O-line, DJ would be doing even better than he is. DJ is a #1... problem is.... Steelers don't have a #2 WR. Claypool has been a disappointment. Losing JuJu was devastating.

The argument isn’t he’s the best in the league, he’s not, it’s he is a #1 receiver. I don’t know how you put up the stats and not be considered a #1 receiver on a team.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen more empty stats out of a WR than DJ's right now. No one who's followed the game for any length of time thinks DJ is a legit #1 WR and it's not just because of the drops his entire career. He disappears with regularity. He's the king of junk yards. How many yards does he have off of opponents playing prevent and basically giving us 10 yards?

No defense is worried about DJ. The next time he takes over a game and wins it for us will be the first time. He has zero traits of a #1 WR. Maybe his yards put him in the top 10 but he's not a legit #1 WR. (I believe he's ranked 10th) He's basically good for 50-100 yards each game. Granted he had 38 yards vs the titans. If any team focuses on taking him out of our game, they would do it with ease. Any good corner will shut him down. He is not a weapon that creates opportunities for others. He did have a nice few games but yea that does not make him a true #1 WR. I'd say he'd be a nice #2 WR if we had a legit #1.

Problem is he's just taking JuJu's yards... he gets the easy 0-5 yard high % passes. JuJu IMO is a better possession WR because of his ability to break tackles, consistent hands, consistent routes, and significantly better blocking ability.

Diontae struggled hard, but he had great raw talent. He is handful now for any team.

HOPE CC can turn the corner.

Bring in Rodgers + his WR (forgetting his name), Draft an ILB and CB and upgrade at OLINE and we can be a MONSTER next year!

but back to his offense - man, it is putrid.

some of the worst since 1999, Kent Graham and Co.

2003 was pretty bad too, now that I think about it. 6 wins, I think.

thank GOD for Ben for 17 years!

He’s not like a Megatron #1. He gets his numbers, but he doesn’t take over games the way AB did. I’ll give him 1b, maybe. Regardless, I love his attention to the route, and am glad he’s a Steeler. Would love to see what he could do on a good team.

For the last time you can't bring in Rodgers, and do everything You just said. We don't have unlimited cap space.
You can do one ,or the others.
