Dude is supposed to be a smart player and has the physical ability. He's taller and faster than Gay so if he does, he could be around for awhile.

He's almost always close to where he needs to be but just doesn't make that play on the ball.

Gay turned it around, but can he? People wanted to run him out of town and then somehow he became a fan favorite culminating in that 3 INT TD return year!

I honestly believe it's not our coaching, or always players. I believe We don't have a scheme anymore. I'm not explaining this right.
I believe We have tried 2 incorporated 2 much into what we do. I'm still not getting my point across. Never mind.

Willie Gay was originally miscast as an outside corner, but when he settled into a role in the slot he was much better.

I get what you are trying to say. The getting in the lab tinkering has added more responsibilities to Tomlin's favorite Tampa-2 while at the same time they have expanded or contracted the zone responsibilities that were typical of the Lebeau 3-4 zone blitz. The introduction of sub package defense a lot of the time with nickel and dime packages has further muddied the water.

I pointed out last week I think that watching the Chiefs/Broncos game that the two guys tasked with covering Hill completely ignored everything else the Chiefs did to confuse them. We haven't played man assignments in a very long time, not even sure I can remember a time under Tomlin where they specifically said this is you guy by the end of the game tell me what flavor of gum he is. It's the whole nameless grey faces spiel.

Gay turned into a pretty solid slot player for us. Probably the best in a decade until Hilton. I like Pierre, but he has a ways to go to reach Gay levels. (Insert joke here).

To be mentioned in the same breath as William Gay, Pierre will need to work on his TD celebrations.

I used to loathe Gay when he was younger, especially against Brady...I watch the Steelers games with my one brother, and I swear...Brady used to come up to the line, see where Gay was,and then pass to who he was guarding...We would just scream at the TV

He was so bad, but somehow got better as time went on

Dick LeBeau had Gay playing 12 yards off the receiver. Brady would sit there and laugh at that right before he snapped the ball and made the quick hit. Used to drive me bonkers beyond belief.

William Gay often didn't have many great pass break ups, but man when he would make an INT he turned them babies into pick 6's.

Didn’t Gay go to the Cardinals for a short employment?
When he came back he was better.

As a track guy, he always had the speed.

He played for the Cardinals for one season, 2012, before returning to the Steelers.

Maybe we should send all our young DB'S away for a year so they can get some solid coaching . It worked for William Gay he was a lot better after just being away for a short period of time.

that would be helpful. Never understood why a presumed adult would choose to write that way.

Well, in any case, if the scheme or our philosophical style of playing the game is losing its potency, who is supposed to recognize this and make necessary changes? The water boy? JK

I thought he changed positions when he returned to the Steelers, he was a failure as an outside CB his first go round with the Steelers.

This is where you’re mistaken. You think I’m worried about it when nothing could be further from the truth. It’s your choice to portray yourself as illiterate or lacking self respect. I’m certainly not losing any sleep over it.
